About Me & My Family

I am a SAHM and Photographer. We travel to KC a lot to see my husband's family and make it out to CA every few years to see my husband's mother. I stay very active with our daughter during the day. I am always looking for new and exciting things to do off the beaten path.

"Great zoo in the heart of the city"
Although we now go to brookfield zoo more than Lincoln Park because we moved out to the burbs I still love Lincoln Park Zoo.  There is a great grassy area too on the west side of the zoo for kids to run around and a green house.  Of course there are a ton of animals to see too.  I personally like their petting zoo more than the children's section at brookfield zoo.

"Great free activity"
We have been here a handful of times in the past year.  this is a small free 'zoo'.  it doesn't take long to walk around but there is an area that the kids can feed the ducks.  they have small birds, goats, pigs, deer, fox etc...  the parking lot fills up very quickly.  worth a trip if you are looking for something to occupy about an hour.

"free in the burbs"
This is a great place for a weekday.  haven't been here on the weekends yet.  throughout the year they have seasonal acitivities for the kids too.  my daughter got to watch them collect the eggs from the hen house.  you can tour the old cottage and get a brief history lesson.  i've also seen older kids planting things in the spring/summer.

"great place to spend the day"
The park has swings, see-saw, several slides, walking bridge, monkey bars, and a sand pit. The 25 acre park is full of tall trees that shade the entire playground. There is also a walking trail that encircles the 10 acre lake. The 4th of July fireworks are great.  they often have art fairs too over the summer.  in the summer/fall there is a cardboard boat race event that is a lot of fun.

"Fun for the Fall"
We've gone here for a few years now.  They have a ton of kids activities and yummy doughnuts and hot cider.  You'll be able to snap some great pumpkin pictures of the kids too but we have opted to buy our pumpkins elsewhere to save a little $$.  It can get busy so go early.

"Ok play area for the kids"
I'm always looking for the free things to do with kids in bad weather.  The treehouse at Yorktown mall is pretty good.  Nice area for the kids to play in but when it gets crowded it can be a little nutty.  There is also a train the kids can ride for i think $1 and the kids seem to enjoy it.  The kids do have to wear socks but if you forget them you can buy a pair for $1 at the info desk.  The nearest bathroom is in Carsons but i would recommend going to the one in Von Mauer instead it is located on the same floor at the back of the store and has better accomodations.

"Great Family Beach"
We used to live up in this area of the city before moving to the burbs.  Foster Ave. Beach was a great family beach.  There is a concession stand and a large sandy beach.  there are also lots of areas for grilling (bring your grill) and it's right along the bike path.  There are great open areas for flying kites too.  Seems to be more family oriented than some of the more popular beaches downtown.

"Nice place "
This might be appealing for kids a little older but our daughter also seems to like it.  In the summer there are water fountains going with multi-story high digital boards that showcase photos.  there is also the infamous 'bean' that kids like because they can see their reflection.  This is a nice place to visit with then just a short walk to the lakefront, grant park, art institute.  in the winter there is ice skating for free (skate rental available).

"great picture place"
Haven't been here with my daughter yet but went a lot as a kid.  lots of trails to hike/walk.  not sure how stroller friendly they are.  there is the museum with a minimal cost for the tour that could be interesting.  in the fall i do know that you can get some great pictures of the little ones with all the changing colors.
