About Me & My Family

We are a busy family with 3 kids and we don't sit still. When we aren't running off to scouts, dance, sports, etc., we really enjoy spending time as a family. If we have a day we will try to find someplace local to explore. If we have a weekend we go a little further. Give us a week and we can really pack it in. We are always on the lookout for family friendly destinations (especially hotels which seem so hard to find!). Our vacations are not spent floating in the pool...they are spent exploring the area to its fullest!

My daughter is such a pip and thinks the hotel is the destination. If we do sightseeing along the way she just keeps asking "when are we going to get to the hotel?" She loves checking out our new "home away from home" and she LOVES the fact that she gets to share a room with someone!!

"Lighthouse"
My husband has always been intrigued with lighthouses and my oldest wanted to visit this particular lighthouse after seeing it featured on Ghost Hunters.

While no ghosts were spotted on our visit, what we learned is that this is the tallest lighthouse in NJ and the 3rd tallest in the country.  If you climb the 228 steps you will be rewarded with beautiful views of the Atlantic City Skyline.

Be sure to take time to read about the history of the lighthouse in the museum and also out in the original oil house.

We found a coupon in our Entertainment book for 50% off of 2 admissions saving us a few dollars.

"Amazing picture"
This was our second time at the IMAX and we saw a documentary film The Ultimate Wave Tahiti.  This movie features surfing champion Kelly Slater and takes you on the journey of finding the ultimate wave.  It explains the coral reef ecosystem that makes the waves and surfing conditions unique in this part of the world.

A  true IMAX experience, the picture was vivid and at times you felt as if you were in the water with the surfers.  We really enjoyed this film for both the educational and visual properties of the film.  It felt as if we were sitting on the shores of Tahiti with the locals learning about surfing.

I highly recommend looking up the current films running at the IMAX theater and seeing one that interests your family.  They run both documentary type films as well as feature films and the quality of the movie is like none other you will expeience in a traditional movie theater.

Disclosure: My family was provided complimentary tickets to this movie.

While a trip to the IMAx theater is a bit pricey, the picture quality was amazing.  We saw a currently running movie in 3D and I was amazed at the sound and picture quality.  My kids loved it but my husband felt a bit motion sick from the experience.

Be sure to check the schedule before going as they only have one theater and run only 1 or 2 movies to choose from.

We were able to print a coupon off the website for $2 off each ticket up to 6 tickets so be sure to check this out before you go!

"Believe It!"
This was our second visit to Ripley's and we were just as delighted this time around as we were the first.  It really is a great place to spend a morning or afternoon.   Room after room of interesting exhibits keep you entertained and amazed.  Some things you see will make you just shake your head in wonderment.  Don't rush through, take your time to really look around each room so you don't miss anything.

My kids loved measuring themselves up against the world's tallest man and learning bizzarre facts from around the world.

Disclosure: My family was provided complimentary admission into the museum to faciliate this review.

We decided to head to Atlantic City on a day off from school.  I researched some things to do and I knew this was a must see stop for my kids.  My boys (10, 8) love odd facts and finds.  However, even my daughter (6) enjoyed it.

They have exhibits on display visible on the boardwalk that are pretty neat and draw you in.  What I was surprised to find was how big this museum actually was inside and how it entertained us for a longer period of time than I had originally anticipated.

There are over 400 exhibits in this Odditorium ranging from eclectic to the pure bizzare and unbelievable.  You weren't quite sure what you would find next as you moved from room to room.

As you venture through there are many "carnival" games like a fortune teller & such that require money to play.  My kids didn't even seem to notice these as being anything other than a display but since yours might, I thought I'd give you a heads up.

Be sure to search for some coupons before you go.  I found a coupon for a free adult admission in our Entertainment book.

"Junglerific"
This themed restaurant takes you inside a rainforest, surround by exotic animals that come to life, a tank of tropical fish and a waterfall.  Every 15 minutes or so there is a simulated thunderstorm.  The kids love the setting.

The menu is what I would consider American fare (with a tropical touch here and there) and the kids menu had lots of options my kids would eat.  The food was good as was the service.

Pass on the signature Volcano dessert.  It is not as good as it looks.

"The World's Largest Elephant"
Lucy was first built as a novelty roadside attraction to attract visitors to the Jersey Shore.  Over the years she has has had many uses and still serves to attract visitors from all around and is now a national Historic Landmark.

You can take a guided tour of Lucy (they start on the half hour and hour) which consists climbing up into her belly and watching a movie on her history.  You can walk around her belly and pier out the port hold windows which are her eyes.  You will then climb to the top of Lucy, which is 6 stories up,  and be able to take in the beautiful panoramic views of the area.

The kids love the novelty of climbing the World's Largest Elephant.  They also think it is neat peering out of Lucy's eyes and the window that is located at her rear end.  The whole tour takes approximately 20 minutes so there is not much time for anyone to get antsy.

There is a small gift shop that features Lucy merchandise and other elephant related items.

"Touch Tank Fun"
This aquarium may be small in size but it isn't short on fun.  When we first arrived we happened to get there as a staff member was presenting exotic animals.  We got an up close look and learned about the red tailed boa and a chinchilla that both call the aquarium home.  These presentations, as well as ray feedings, and a live diver show are scheduled throughout the day.

After the presentation we explored the 3 floors.  The exhibits feature a moray eel, jelly fish, tropical fish, seahorses, rainforest critters, a loggerhead turtle, sting rays,  a local tank and more.

The highlight of the aquarium are the two touch tanks.  On the first floor the touch tank includes sea urchins, sea stars, horse shoe crabs and a few other sea creatures.  My kids enjoyed spending time exploring the tank.  Their absolute favorite however was the Ray Touch Tank on the second floor.  These juvenile rays swim about and if you put your hand in you will be able to "pet" them.  They were quite active and my kids really got a kick out of them.  We also happened to be there at feeding time.  For a nominal fee you can purchase a cup of fish to feed the rays.  My kids LOVED the experience.  It is something they've never had the opportunity to do before and they thought it was really cool to be a part of it.

On the third floor there is a display of antique diving equipment.  There are also two observation decks that treat you to to the views of the area.

The aquarium is located in Gardner's Basin.  During the summer season there are crafters outside and there are a few restaurants to grab some lunch or dinner.

Disclosure:  Our family was provided complimentary admission to the aquarium to help facilitate this review.
