Take the two hour drive to Savannah and spend the day wandering the streets looking at the holiday decorations, eating delicious taffy and other candies, check out Paula Deen's restaurant (The Lady and Son's) and take a horse carriage!

"Watch them pull fresh saltwater taffy!"
Savannah’s Candy Kitchen has been open for over 30 years.  The brick walls are a stark contrast to all the bright candies decorating the building.  It is not just a candy store though, it is an experience.  Watch the saltwater taffy being pulled and then sent on the little conveyor belt through the store.  The saltwater taffy comes in so many different flavors.  We like strawberry, banana, and orange.  My son loves the chocolate!  Watch them hand dip candied apples or drop out pralines.  There are barrels of other kinds of candy to pick from too.  The divinity is some of the best I have ever had and the gophers are so tasty…I could go on and on!

Comment:
In less than an hour you can be in St. Augustine. Head over there during the day and tour Flagler college and check out the fort. When you are finished hop on the trolley or wander through the Nights of Lights Festival.

400 South Monroe Street
Tallahassee, Florida

Comment:
This is our longest daytrip suggestion. It takes about 3 hours to get to Tallahassee, but the winter break is a great time to visit as lots of college students have gone home for the holiday! Visit the Historic Capitol Building, tour FSU, hike Torreya State Park or tour Alfred B. Maclay State Gardens.

233 S. Third Street
Fernandina Beach, Florida

Comment:
Take the short 25 minute drive to Amelia Island and look for shark's teeth on the beach, check out downtown, and visit the museum.

Comment:
Talbot Island State Parks are another short day trip destination (about 45 minutes). Just because it is winter doesn't mean you should always skip the beach! Wander the beach and hiking trails, go fishing or if you are brave enough in the colder weather get a canoe or kayak!
