15 Family Friendly Hostels to book now for next summer

Hostels are one of the least expensive way to get lodging when you travel. They usually have separate dormitories for men and women but they also can have some bedrooms for the family. Travelers can be asked to share bathrooms and toilets and they also share a kitchen, ideal to save on the restaurant bills.  You can be asked to do some chores (or you can ask the kids!) and will have to abide by the rule that if you used it, you clean it.

Since they are on the cheapest way to find sleeping and they have less rooms than hotels, they get fully booked fast. So here is a list of popular hostels that you should book right now for your next summer vacation.

13-657 Hinalo Street
Hawaii's Big Island - Pahoa Pahoa, Hawaii

Comment:
With only ten beds, you will have to hurry to book that hostel that has the advantage of being an Eco-Hostel where the 3 Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) are put into action every day. Children will certainly appreciate playing farmer (part of the stay). You will drink fresh rainforest water, take a shower outside heated by the sun and will ‘enjoy’ open air restrooms all that surrounded by the lush Hawaiian vegetation.

105 Pike Street
Seattle, Washington

Comment:
This is the ideal package for the budget savvy family: you will have all the attractions of Seattle at your steps saving on car rental fees, the hostel is inexpensive, and you can count on free dinner for the family three times a week. Stop reading and go book right now!

Fort Barry Building 941
Sausalito, California

Comment:
This is the ideal hostel for families who want to be close to San Francisco but want to enjoy the countryside. Trails and scenic views start just right outside of this hostel so you will just have to pack for a picnic and leave for a day of exploration.

Pescadero, California

Comment:
A lighthouse, sea lions roaming around, tide pools, whale watching, what else do you need when you are a child? Located in one of the most beautiful California settings, you will enjoy staying at this hostel by the ocean.

Fort Mason, Building 240
San Francisco, California

Comment:
This is the perfect hostel for families who want to stay right in the city. This is not a downtown location but this is a great location for families: Pier 39 with its sea lions is right there as well as attractions like the Aquarium, the Musee Mecanique, the Wax museum, Alcatraz and much more. Downtown San Francisco is a cable car ride away and you can rent bikes to go cross the Golden Gate Bridge.

Comment:
This is a wonderful location for a trip in Los Angeles. You get to stay at a prime location, not far from the Los Angeles attraction, and still be by the beach.

1700 N Harbor Blvd
Fullerton, California

Comment:
This is ideal for the families who want to stay close to Disneyland and can not or do not want to stay at more pricy Disney hotels.

4961 Newport avenue
San Diego, California

Comment:
With free breakfast and free barbecue dinner twice a week, this is another good choice for the budget savvy family. With attractions in San Diego ranging to high prices, this is definitely a good way to save on a wonderful vacation in this very child friendly city.

1213 S. Hwy 191
Moab, Utah

Comment:
This is as rustic as rustic can be: cabins in the Utah desert. With a price tag starting at $9 per person for a dormitory, it does not get better than that!

601 Spruce Avenue
Niagara Falls, New York

Comment:
You know the feeling when the kids ask to go see an attraction over and over again? That will most likely what will happen with the Niagara Falls so you better stay close to it. The Wanderfalls is the hostel to stay, it is the closest hostel to the falls so you will not have to walk long to get there.

230 W 101st St
New York (Manhattan), New York

Comment:
With New York hotels in the high price range, this is the option to consider if you want to stay in Manhattan with the kids.

Stay at this hostel and you will have 120 acres to explore so make sure you bring the bikes. Nature vacation at its best.

816 Haywood Road
Asheville, North Carolina

Comment:
Staying at this hostel is like being part of a community of travelers. You will feel welcome and instantly at home, but ready to explore your new surroundings. PS: In case you are wondering, Bon Paul and Sharky were two little goldfish (no longer alive) that were part of the owner’s life.

Tampa, Florida

This hostel could have made the list of fun places to stay with your families. One of the rooms is an actual train sleeper car so if you want it, better make that reservation now!

Saint Augustine, Florida

You will have to hurry and book fast if you want to stay in one of the 5 private rooms. With names likes the Jungle room or the Pirate room, imagine the joy of the little ones when they hear where they are going to stay. This is the place you want to book if your children can climb the 19 stairs by themselves in order to get to their room.
