Imagine spending the night on a train surrounded by the Alaska wilderness. Book a night at the Aurora Express and this is just what you will get. All the cabooses are restored into wonderful suites and your children will fall asleep dreaming on wonderful adventures. In the morning, you will enjoy having breakfast and diner in the Diner Car.

You will feel like the Swiss family Robinson, going up to your tree house to spend the night up in the air. To go the Cavaltree Fort, you will even have to use a swinging bridge. Some of the tree houses are more accessible and are located closer to the ground than others for the ones like my daughter who are afraid of heights.

Have your children experience Africa. When you wake up in the morning, you are greeted by giraffes, the same way you would be greeted if you were thousands of miles away under the African sun. Is there a better way to start your day? I do not think so but do not be late for that Safari Adventure where you will see more African animals along the way!

"A wonderful Family experience"
Did you know that you can stay right in an African wildlife reserve at Safari West, located in good ‘ol Santa Rosa, California? Our overall experience at Safari West left our whole family glowing.  Although you can visit the wildlife reserve without sleeping over for the night, we found our stay to be comfortable and quite an experience.

We liked the

- Cabins that were unique, transporting you to a different world.  The décor was African themed and tastefully done.
- Bedding that was very comfortable and cozy even though we were in a canvas cabin
- The beautiful views from our patio area
- Peaceful and safe environment where we felt comfortable letting our girls wander off on their own
- Excellent service from staff that made sure all your needs were well taken care of
- Warm and friendly community atmosphere especially at meal times
- Lack of TV and cell phone service which forced us to unplug and enjoy nature, although WIFI was available
- Excellent food – there was good variety and the food was very tasty
- Fun extras for kids – the catfish feeding and roasting marshmallows were a BIG hit.

Our girls didn’t want to leave!  A few tips and to those staying at Safari West.  The bathrooms are cold in the morning. Take a bath in the evening instead.  Check out is very rushed, so either give yourself plenty of time or plan to carry your luggage out yourself.  The morning Safaris start at 10am, so you don’t have much time to check out.

In this hotel, children will get to sleep on a yurt: a tent but only better with a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean. It will be like sleeping under the stars surrounded by the giant trees of Big Sur, feeling like Asian nomads. Please note that you can not bring children younger than 6 to the resort.

Where to start? It took my children a long time to decide on which room they wanted amongst the 110 themed rooms. They eventually settled on the Safari Room but they also wanted to try the Pony Room, the Wilhelm Tell, and the Yosemite Rock etc. This is a must go during the Holidays when the dining room of the restaurant is uniquely decorated with extravagant Christmas decorations.

"My kids still talk about it"
Staying at this hotel was a surprise for my husband's birthday. We stayed in the Safari Room, that has a Waterfall shower. The room was really big and very kitshy (but that's why you go there). My children are still talking about the room and are dreaming of going back and try the Pony Room. The swimming pool with the waterfalls and view of the valley is soothing. We had dinner at the restaurant. It was Christmas and the whole place was darling. The food was average and expensive though. I will definitely go back there one day (but will skip the dining experience)

What about spending the night on a haunted vessel? Our little adventurers can go on a ghost sighting tours on board of the Queen Mary and spend the night wondering if one of them is going to come for a special visit. Ideal for tweenagers and teenagers with friends! They are on for a spooky night to remember.

"My daughter felt like a princess"
We stayed at the Excalibur when our oldest daughter was 2 at the time. She could not believe that she would be spending the night in a castle. This is the perfect hotel for young children as they still believe in Fantasy.
Our room was clean and we experienced quick check-in and check-out. We did not go to the children's attractions like the arcade since she was so young.

I have to say that this is the cutest little hotel Dennis and Frances built a hotel that looks like a beagle. Children will love to go up the stairs to sleep in the loft room located in the dog’s head and muzzle. It will not get a lot to get your children excited about sleeping in that hotel. In fact, you will have a hard time having them to leave.

Our cow boys and cow girls in the making will enjoy sleeping in the rooms decorated Western style. The experience is not limited to the room decoration, you will get to go to the miniature petting zoo and take some horseback riding, "just beginning to be a cowboy" lessons which includes all about horses. They will be taught how to rope, how to walk and act like a cowboy...but if they chose not to do the horses, there is a hay wagon for great hay rides and some carriages to ride in so they will still feel like a cowboy or a prime frontier lady. The experience will be unforgettable.

If you can not visit the Aurora Express in Alaska, why not try the Double K Ranch in the Arizona desert? You will be surrounded by the desert wilderness. Children will get to experience sleeping on their own caboose and feel like explorers. Before going to bed or after breakfast, children will be able to follow over 1000 feet of brass track that traverse the back yard and go around the pool and then can go do some bird sightings.

What do you think of a place where you would wake up every day and it would be Christmas all over again? Take your children to the Christmas Palace to experience that kind of feeling. They may seem a little bit disoriented at firs to hear Singing Santa if you go in the summer time but they will definitely enjoy it!

This is not about resting, this is about FUN! Parents and kids can get slimed, have breakfast with SpongeBob and his friends and sleep in a room, tenderly overlooked by the Fairy God Parents! This is a really unique hotel for the little cartoons lovers.
