10 best outdoor ice-skating rinks for families

I have selected what I believe are the nicest outdoor ice-skating rinks for families, they all have their own special identity and your children will have fun for sure.
When you go skating for children, it is best to go when the ice-skating rinks are the less crowded. If you have preschoolers, take them during week days when everyone else is at work or at school. If you have children in elementary schools and beyond, take them skating whenever they have a free day or a week-end early during the day when they still have a lots of energy and there are less ice-skaters on the ice.
Never take them when they are tired or at the end of the day as you may increase the risks of falling and getting hurt.

Close your eyes, and imagine circling a rink with views of Half Dome, Glacier Point, and El Capitan. That will be your reality if you are in Yosemite Park in winter. Your little ones will enjoy making some smores or drinking a hot cocoa after they are done with their gliding.

First, you get to take the aerial cable car to access the ski station. Then, you get to ice-skate on an Olympic size rink! Best of all, you can even skate during the summer. The views are simply amazing. The good thing about the place is that you will find a lot of 'walkers' so if you go with your children, you will not feel that there is a pressure to 'skate'. The ring is big enough for every skater to go at their level.

This ice-rink is open year-round. There is a ice-skating school on the premises to help the first timers. In the summer, you can enjoy ice-skating shows on Saturday nights, you can watch the performers practice and you can also skate. In winter, there are no shows and you can skate there more often. Go there on Christmas Eve and admire an ice show welcoming Santa in town. Admission is $10, children 10 and under pay $8.50, children under 5 are free with a paying adult. Skate rentals are $4

This skating rink has a great view of the city’s whole skyline; its right along Michigan Avenue and it makes you feel connected to the city. However, this is a very popular ice-skating rink so make sure that if you go with children, you go there early in the morning so they can enjoy the experience. The entrance is free and skate rentals are $10.

What could be more beautiful than skating surrounded by Christmas lighted branches and the New York skyline? Skating school is just right there if you need a little push.

This ice rink is nicely located in the heart of dowtown Grand Rapids. The rink has tiny fiber optics lights under the ice from the constellation of stars that were over the city at the start of the millenium.

You are able to skate and admire the ski slopes at the same time. You are up for a treat scenery wise with the ski slopes on one side of the rink and the Blue Ridge Mountains on the other side. When you are too tired to skate, you can warm up by the bonfire. Skating is offered during three sessions from November 22 to March 23 weather permitting: Noon to 2pm 2:30pm to 4:30pm 7pm to 9pm Skating is $14 / session, which includes complimentary skate rental if needed.
