My parents got us a week here for our honeymoon and it was wonderful. The building was gorgeous and the location was excellent. The rooms are great and have kitchens, dining areas and living rooms. The staff is amiable and you are within walking distance to the metro/subway stations so you can take those into DC if you don't want to drive. Definitely nicer and quieter than staying in DC but still close to everything. Would love to go back again!
Three years ago, before our 4th child was born, we went to Washington D.C. with the other three (2, 9 & 11at the time). We rented a timeshare (through http://www.redweek.com) in the Wyndham Old Town Alexandria resort, that only cost us $115/night (for 5 of us!!). The Best thing we've ever done! The unit was decorated like Mount Vernon - we felt "historical" right off the bat! The Metro is right there, so it was super easy to pile everyone on (they have elevators if you have a stroller) and head off for sight-seeing every day. (I have to say that this Metro was the cleanest, quickest and most user-friendly one I've Ever experienced.) The kitchen in the timeshare was a life-saver - so convenient for fixing meals for always hungry kids, and really helped save on food costs. We highly recommend this as a very inexpensive way to spend a week seeing fabulous Washington, D.C. with your children.
