This was by far the most awesome place we stayed on our road trip! Yes, it is small, basic, no-frills & kitchy, but it's a tepee! If your kids have seen the Cars movies, they will recognize this immediately.
This is one of the last Wigwam Motels left in the US. It sits right on Route 66 & has been family owned since 1950. The owners have maintained the property well & kept true to its 1950's allure. There are even old antique cars parked in front of the units. The rooms are clean, neat, & surprisingly big on the inside. The shower is small, though. The largest room sleeps four with two double beds. If you need another room, they do not have an attach option - they are free standing. However, that might be fine if you have older kids with you.
The best part is after dark when the neon goes on. My husband & I sat outside our tepee on a bench with a bottle of wine, enjoying the awesome scenery & reminiscing about what a fabulous road trip we were having.
The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of restaurants. It sits near some train tracks, but we weren't bothered or kept awake by train noise. The area felt secure.
This is a must stay for families visiting the Petrified Forest!
