"Pricey"
I stayed here with a work conference and found it to be pricey even at the discounted rate. Fortunately, I wasn't footing the bill. The restaurants were good and the gift shop (must get kiddos souvenirs) was adequate. It was within walking distance of the zoo if you have kids along for the trip.

"Ok if you aren't footing the bill"
This hotel lives down to the many online reviews. We stayed here because of a conference, so the room cost was covered by my company. I have had much better service, decor etc at budget chain hotels in big cities for a fraction of the price of this hotel.
Service from staff is adequate but hardly friendly or anticipating of your needs. Rooms with refridgerators are booked out early and only available in the old tower. So make sure you ask at the time of making your reservation. It is definately a business travelers hotel and not family oriented. The room price is outrageous even for DC and you better be getting a sweet deal or have some else foot the bill. Food services are limited to formal restuarant dining, expensive and not kid friendly. There are lots of food options nearby but be prepared to be shelling out $60-80 a night for dinner for a family of 4. There is a pool (not obvious from the website info) which is best suited to older children who are competent swimmers. The one advantage of this hotel is its location - right at the entrance to the redline. Otherwise I would give it a miss.
