Vonnie and Dave own and operate a bed and breakfast (and awesome guide service) our of their large home and it makes a great place to stay for a family fishing trip.
Vonnie and Dave are wonderful about making guests feel welcome as well as getting them to local sites and providing a little tour of Sitka. Their experienced guides can put guests on the fish and they have an excellent processing facility in the garage to help guests preserve their catch and get it home.
Breakfasts were light continental most days, with several types of cereal, breads and juices to choose from. One morning, Dave prepared pancakes and made a special character one for our son. They seem to be foodies -- with communal evening suppers that are pretty healthy and flavorful. Our room was simple with a queen bed and space for luggage, the bathroom was clean and spacious and the communal living/kitchen area was always inviting. My son loved the hunting/fishing motif, with all sorts of mounts to look at. The view from their property is amazing, overlooking the ocean.
Tip: There is super duper berry picking nearby, so save an hour or so to let the kids taste huckleberries and salmonberries while they're in season! Parking is a little tight on site since it's a residential area, but there is a small grassy yard for any outdoor play that you might want for the kiddos. The resident dog, Wy, was a big his with our son. She is a Griffon and was friendly to our son, entertaining him during down time.
A Safeway is within walking distance and it's only a few miles from downtown Sitka.
This is a wonderful base camp for families, especially those that love to fish and/or those that want some skookum local knowledge to help plan their itinerary.
Disclosure: My family received a complimentary nights' stay at Vonnie's B&B. All opinions are our own. Thank you!
