My husband and I were lucky enough to take our 5 (almost 6!) year old son to Orange Beach, AL and stay at the Turquoise Place Resort from May 1st-May 3rd.
Upon arrival everyone was very friendly and helpful explaining where to park our car and making sure that we felt comfortable and welcome. You are given wristbands that act as your key to your room and entry to the beach and pool areas.
We went up to our room and when we opened up the door we could see the view of the gulf coast down the hallway through the giant windows in the living room. I’m pretty sure I squealed with delight! We explored the condo, unpacked our bags and then got in our swim suits to check out the lazy river and pools.
After looking on the website we were really excited about the lazy river, but once we saw it we were a little disappointed. It was much smaller than we were expecting, but it actually turned out to be okay. It’s only 2 ½ feet deep so we weren’t so nervous about our son being in there alone while we enjoyed the sun! When we were done we went inside to the indoor pool and hot tubs and this ended up being one of our favorite places to relax. You can see the gulf from the hot tub!
We spent the next day on the beach. There are cabanas and beach chairs with umbrellas to rent, but we just enjoyed our time the old fashioned way (in the sand with beach towels)! The sand is white and powdery soft. There are also lots of places to find some beautiful sea shells!
The highlight of our trip was spotting the Manta Rays and Dolphins in the water from our balcony! I really feel like we hit the jackpot with this trip. The best part about it all was that we felt RELAXED the whole time. If you are looking for a tranquil getaway, Turquoise Place won’t let you down!
The Condo: The layout of the 3 bedroom, 3 ½ bathroom was great. When you walk in there are two bedrooms. The bedroom on the right hand side has a King bed with a stand up shower. The bedroom on the left has two twin beds with a jetted tub/shower combo. In the hallway is a ½ bathroom and the laundry room which features a front loading washer and dryer. The laundry room came in really handy to dry our swim suits in between swimming! The kitchen and dining/living area are large and open. There is even a gas fireplace!
Off of the main living area is the master bedroom. The master bedroom is HUGE with a King bed and large master bath. The master bath has a shower (with multiple shower heads) and a Jacuzzi tub that fit all three of us! I do have to say that the Jacuzzi tub was very difficult to figure out how to use. We just pressed a bunch of buttons and hoped for the best. There was also a spacious walk in closet as well. (A fun note: The master bathroom has great acoustics if you like to sing in the shower!).
The condo that we stayed in had all of the upgrades that anyone could wish for. I was happy that it was extremely CLEAN. The kitchen was stocked with anything that you would need to cook, bake or grill. The appliances are top of the line and the granite counter tops made me jealous! My son was in love with the wet bar that had an ice maker he could get ice from whenever he wanted! And if you like your wine, they have a separate wine cooler as well!
The beds are extremely comfortable (the King beds are on the soft side, while the twin beds were a little firmer). Each bed has a down comforter which really made the bedding feel lush! There is also plenty of storage space in the bedrooms and bathrooms. And if you love your TV you will be happy to know that each bedroom and the living room feature flat screen TVs.
Something that I did notice was that it was very quiet in our condo which I loved. There is nothing more frustrating to me than going to a hotel and trying to get a good night’s rest and you can hear people running around all night. It was truly like we were in our own home (just in paradise)!
Our favorite part of the condo was the balcony. All balconies face the gulf coast and the view was just amazing. Each balcony opens from the living room and the master bedroom. On the balcony is a grill (that we couldn’t get to work, but we also didn’t feel like calling to ask for help), a table with chairs and a Jacuzzi hot tub. If you are lucky in the morning you might spot the dolphins and manta rays!
Amenities and Facilities: There are a ton of amenities and facilities at this resort. There are two outdoor pools, the lazy river, indoor hot tubs, steam rooms, saunas, tennis courts, fitness rooms and a playground. The playground was really small and my son wasn’t really interested in going on it, but it would be good for toddlers. There is also a Spa (which I didn’t get the chance to test out).
Service: The service was great! Everyone was very friendly and helpful. My husband was trying to track down a place where he could get all-you-can-eat crab and the front desk offered to make calls for him to find a place (we said thank you anyway but we’d try to track it down ourselves). When we walked through the lobby to the beach we were always asked how our day was going. It’s nice to be treated well when you are on vacation!
Food Options: We did a lot of cooking in the condo (because who wouldn’t want to use that awesome kitchen at least once?!). And there is no need to bring anything but your food since the kitchen is stocked with anything you would ever need. There is also a TON of storage for your food as well!
There is a seasonal Bar & Grill named Change of Pace on the property, but we didn’t order anything from there. We smelled something cooking there though and it smelled GOOD!
Location: Turquoise Place is located right on the gulf (there is a wooden bridge that connects the beach to the condos. Beware the wooden bridge! My son got splinters in his hand from the wooden railings. It put a crimp in our vacation for a while until the splinters were out, but then we got back to our fun!).
We didn’t care for the location of the Resort. It’s not really within walking distance to anything if you are traveling with children. The road it’s on is very busy and is 4 lanes to cross. I wish there would have been more places that we would have been able to walk to, but they did have mostly everything you would need there.
Money/Value: In my opinion we wouldn’t be able to afford to stay there if it were just the three of us vacationing, however we have already been talking to family members about going in together next year to split the cost. The condos that we stayed in accommodate up to 8 people. The price is definitely WORTH what you get!
Family Packages or Services: The bathrooms are all stocked with toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body wash and soap which all smelled amazing! And a fun little service was a “red box like” movie rental system located in the lobby. They had some old and new movies for rent and each bedroom and the living room had DVD players as well! The rental is included in your stay!
We would DEFINITELY recommend Turquoise Place to couples and or families looking to getaway! My son kept saying as we were driving away, “I don’t want to leave paradise”! That’s exactly what it felt like!
