Nestled in the forest just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, this little cabin waits to provide a family with a magical home base for adventures. A well-maintained 175 year old structure has been updated with cleverly concealed modern conveniences: One can rely on the wood stove for cooking and heating, or slip into the secret kitchen and flip on the gas heat. Even cable television is cleverly hidden but ready should the need arise. Cabin features full kitchen, living/dining room, bath with shower, upstairs room includes 1 queen bed, 2 singles, and there's even a sleeping loft which our 7 and 10 year olds enjoyed. Room for 2 single mattresses up there. Note: I was concerned our 20-month-old might have some problems, drawn to the loft ladder or the wood stove, but he did just fine. He was so fascinated with watching the animals outside and everything else that it was never a problem. There is no crib or highchair. Again, OUR son did great with the improvisations we made. (We brought our own booster seat, and a guard rail for the single bed.) Outside one can explore the immediate area, wandering the gravel road and gazing at the farms surrounding the cabin, or just down the road is a little country store with a fishing pond, horseback adventures, and then there's Crabtree Falls, the tallest on the East Coast. There's a hot tub at the cabin, and a map to discover the local swimming holes. While eating breakfast, we enjoyed watching deer graze outside, and at night we could hear a fox barking. Truly a magical place to rest during your Blue Ridge vacation.
