"Loved it! "

The Wigwam Resort is one of the more fun resorts we’ve stayed at with the kids. There really is something for everyone. All in a casual, non-pretentious, fun and laid back environment but with the luxuries you want and look for in a high-end resort.

My kids gave the pool TWO thumbs up. The reason – water slides, splash area, ice cream and they could pretty much touch the bottom throughout the pool given that the deepest part was four feet. Oh, and you can’t forget getting to do a beanbag toss while they waited for breakfast each morning and playing/sleeping in the tee-pee.

I wrote an indepth review at if you'd like to check it out.

"Spacious rooms and warm pools"

We stayed two nights at the historic Wigwam Resort with my family of 7 (kids ages 0-9). Our visit coincided with their holiday events and the spacious grounds glittered with holiday lights. We loved playing in the pool and exploring the beautiful grounds.

*Staying in a suite with spacious adjoining rooms and living area
*Fun and warm swimming pool, even though it was winter
*Beautiful grounds
*Friendly and helpful staff

*Waterslides were closed for the winter season
*Arcade is a little rundown

Our rooms were perfect for a large family. The two bedrooms were connected in the middle by a living room. All the rooms had plenty of unused space for kids to run around and play. The beds were extremely comfortable. My 4-year-old had ended up in our king sized bed in the night. When he awoke in the morning, he sat up, then promptly threw himself back on his pillow exclaiming, “This bed is SO comfy!” The bathroom has double sinks and a large counter area. The closet was huge; more than enough room for a pack n’ play, so baby had her own room. The rooms all had a back door that led to a patio with a table and chairs so we were able to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful grounds and weather. Most of the buildings are only one story (with a few 2-story exceptions). It was easy to get the luggage from the car to the room without worrying about stairs. It was also nice that we didn’t have to worry about the kids running around and being loud for the downstairs neighbors.

The Wigwam has two huge pools and Jacuzzis. The Oasis pool is for ages 14 and up so we didn’t experience that one, but the Tower pool is really two pools connected by a channel under a bridge. The first pool, near the waterslides is only 3 feet deep; perfect for little ones just looking to wade in the water. The second pool gets up to 5 feet deep and is great for bigger kids looking to actually swim. My 6 and 9-year-old enjoyed swimming back and forth under the bridge. The water temperature was perfect. Being winter, we thought we may not actually want to swim, but The Wigwam kept the water plenty warm, even for my picky husband. Surrounding the inside perimeter of the pool was low step, just right for sitting on. My non-swimmer 2-year-old was able to walk around the step and explore the pool and I was able to sit and relax in the water. We did eventually get cold, due to outside temps, and move to the Jacuzzi. The Jacuzzi was large enough for the kids to swim around and play in, so they could even enjoy the water on a cold day. The waterslides looked fun but are not open during the winter season. There was also a small splash pad that would be nice on a hot day. The pool was surrounded by plenty of lounge chairs.

Besides swimming, the Wigwam offers plenty of other recreation. The resorts main attractions are golf and tennis, and although we didn’t try either, they do offer classes for kids. My kids loved trying Bocce ball and Corn Hole (bean bag toss). There was also a sand volleyball court and ping pong table. All were easily accessible. They do not have a kids club, but there is a small arcade by the Tennis shop. It is not that great but all the kids did like trying out the air hockey table. There was a foosball table as well but the ball was missing. There were also board games on the tables in the lobby. Since our visit was in the winter, it coincided with their holiday activities, including holiday lights, ice skating, and s’mores in the evenings. Please see my review on Holiday Events at the Wigwam for more details.

All rooms have a mini refrigerator and coffee maker. It was great to have a place to keep our own milk for the kids. There are four restaurants on-site that are open to the public and guests alike as well as in-room dining options. The resort is close to many grocery stores and restaurants, so if you choose to dine away from the resort like we did, it is easy to do.

The staff was so friendly and helpful. While exploring the lobby, Jim, a staff member, asked us if we had any questions. When I inquired about the in-house restaurant, he enthusiastically ushered us that way and gave us a personal tour. He even made sure to point out elements the kids would find interesting. He then encouraged us to use the resort as “our own personal country club.” Upon arrival at the pool, a waiter brought us out a pitcher of water and cups at no charge. One of the pool staff saw us swimming with our kids and came over to make sure we were having the best experience we could. She even brought all the kids over mini beach balls to play with and keep.

I loved the variety of plants surrounding the 440 acre resort. Prize winning rose bushes perfumed the air down one path, while trimmed lemon trees provided shade on another. The lodge consists of the rooms surrounding the lobby. The walls are decorated with historic photos from the resorts 85 years in operation. I enjoyed showing my children the Arizona artifacts on display. My children enjoyed the free oranges in the lobby.

For a fee of $25 per night, guests can enjoy having a child-sized teepee in their rooms. They even provide a floor mat to make the ground softer inside of it. My kids loved to play in their teepee.  It was nice for them to have something to do in the room besides watch television. You could even let your child sleep inside it for the night, although there would only be room for one small child.

One of Santa’s elves made a special visit to our room with mini stockings full of surprises for each of my children. She even brought a stuffed animal for the baby. The elf read the children a story (the Elf on the Shelf book) and presented them each with a personal letter from Santa. The elf’s costume was great. Her story reading ability was a little lacking. It sounded like it was her first time reading that book, which it may have been since she visited us early on the first night the resort offered this experience. She was very friendly and fun and the children loved her. The whole experience lasted about 15 minutes. I would suggest you make sure you have the elf come early enough that your little ones don’t fall asleep before she gets there like my 2-year-old did. Cost for Elf Tuck-In is $20 per child.

Bottom-line: The Wigwam is a wonderful resort for all types of families. My 6-year-old loved it so much he has been planning our next visit since we left. I would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a relaxing stay at a resort with children.

Disclosure: This review is based on a complimentary stay at the Wigwam resort including the teepee experience and elf tuck-in. All opinions are entirely my own.
