If you golf or play tennis, it's an even better fit! We loved the Westin Mission Hills' family-friendly suites: with a kitchenette and full-sized dining table, it's easy to make simple meals in-house, especially breakfasts. Las Brisas family pool is the heart of the action during the day. Be sure to check the deck-side activity board to see what ongoing activities will be offered throughout the day. (My kids loved the mid-day 'snowball fight'!) It doesn't much matter if it's 105 degrees in the desert; at the pool, there's a waterslide, cabanas, and plenty of floatie toys for little kids...you could easily spend the bulk of the day here. If you plan to golf without kids (or use the large workout facility, or just enjoy a quiet meal), the Discovery Room offers 3 hour sessions of childcare for kids 4-12 for $45/session. 1 hour sessions are also available for $15. The staff doesn't routinely take kids out of the facility, but given the summertime heat, that's a good thing, as it gives kids a break from the sun. The restaurants at Mission Hills are wonderful. We ate at Bella Vista for a dinner and a breakfast, and at the poolside bar and snack area throughout our stay. This is where the Starwood Preferred Guest Kids' Pass comes in. The Kids' Pass is available at check-in, and gives kids ages 6-12 all-inclusive dining (and poolside drinks and snacks!) throughout your stay. It's $29/day at the Westin Mission Hills, and is also available at other Starwood properties (rates will vary). We used it for my seven-year-old, and it was worth the price because we ate most our meals on property. As with most all-inclusive programs, the value for me was in the stress it took off our budget: I didn't have to say no to snacks and smoothies anymore! If you go: be sure to ask for a room or suite in a building close to the main lobby and Las Brisas pool. Buildings 1-5 offer a nice walk to the pool and restaurants, but farther buildings necessitate a shuttle ride. (Additional pools are located throughout the resort.) Be sure to eat at least one meal at Bella Vista. The staff is very family friendly, and the atmosphere is casual while the dining is exceptional. At their breakfast buffet, kids under 3 eat free (as do Kids' Pass kids, of course).
