The Mayflower was an excellent hotel. It was very nice, well-kept, and the employees were very friendly and helpful.
Room size seemed normal with two queen sized beds, an entertainment center, desk, and small refrigerator. The best thing about the rooms to me were the beds. Although they were called "queen sized" I feel like they were actually a bit larger. The sheets and comforter... wow!!! I didn't want to get out of bed.
When we visited the hotel, our son was about 3 mos. old. The hotel had pack and plays available for no charge and we used the refrigerator to store his milk. We had to talk to the hotel about the snacks from the refrigerator, though. We didn't realize there were sensors that monitored when things were taken out. So, we ended up with a huge bill for the snacks. They were happy to reverse the charges, but if you plan on using the refrigerator be sure to tell them when you check in.
The hotel itself didn't have any real family activities, which was actually okay because we had a whole list of to-dos. The hotel does have a great location basically walking distance to a lot of attractions. We were able to walk to the Smithsonian, Washington Monument, White House, The Old Post Office, and the Theatre where Lincoln was shot all in one day before heading back to the hotel. It's also just a couple blocks from the Metro if you'd prefer decent, cheap public transportation.
The hotel staff was very helpful in answering our questions about different places and giving us directions. The streets in the D.C. area go in all different directions, but with instructions from the hotel staff we were able to find our way fairly easily. In addition, one morning we asked an employee for a good place to have breakfast. They sent us to a small coffee shop kind of place that I'd consider a "hole in the wall." A very good breakfast for a very decent price. Of all the places she could have sent us, she chose what seemed like a very "local" place, which we really appreciated.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Mayflower and would love to go back.
