The Chase is a great find, as it's one of only a handful of small, boutique hotels near downtown that is quite family friendly. There are many larger properties in the area, but Palm Springs is known for it's hip, mid-century small boutique hotels. These small hotels are great for romantic getaways, but it can be hard to find one that can accomodate families.
The Chase is in an excellent location, very walkable to the popular downtown retail district. It's only a short block west of Palm Canyon Dr. (the "strip"). The lobby and public areas boast that cool mid-century vibe, and the rooms are updated and clean. Keep in mind that, like all of the other nearby boutique lodging options, The Chase is an older property that's been refurbished. As such, even though I found our room to be very clean, we thought it did have a sort of funky smell that seemed to stem just from the age of the place.
At least one of the rooms has a kitchenette (our didn't) and the outdoor area near the pool has a nice BBQ grill for patrons to use. The heated pool is large for this type of hotel, although note that it's just a simple rectangle of water...no slides or sand or splash features. I thought it was a nice touch that the owners provide some pool toys and noodles for their guest.
There is also a nice lawn area, with grapefruit trees laden with fruit during our January visit. There's even a shuffleboard court, if you're so inclined.
In the morning, there is a basic continental breakfast of bagels, danishes, fruit and coffee. Or, you can stroll across the parking lot across the street and easily get to Ruby's, a '50s style diner with patio seating that has yummy breakfast.
