My East Coast editor recently stayed three nights at Smuggler's Notch, VT with her three-year-old and one-year-old, and even with kids that young, had a fabulous time. Smuggler's Notch's packages are very affordable (and include lodging, lessons, child care, swimming, and more) and the kid programming is the best we've seen. She had time to take in a private lesson while her kids were on the slopes (and in child care) and despite the fact that neither of her kids are used to daycare environments, they felt very comfortable.
My husband and I wanted to get away for Thanksgiving, so we used our exchange power through our timeshare to rent a until at Smuggler's Notch Resort. We were excited to go, and were not let down. Since we were unable to spend the previous Thanksgiving with my mom and sister, we invited them along (as well as my sisters two little ones). We ended up in a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom unit in the Mountain Laurels. The unit was wonderful. It was large enough for the 9 of us, and since we had a bottom unit we could walk right out of the "back door" onto our small porch and then fully outside. The place was well stocked for our cooking needs, and even had games and books on the bookshelf next to the fireplace.
The views were amazing, and we were right next to the ski slope. Of course we were there off season, so there was nothing to see in that respect, but it helped us get some exercise and pictures. Because it was off season not everything was open, so we weren't able to try much out on site. I think because of that though we were able to enjoy a relaxing "weekend" getaway (we arrived on Wednesday and left on Sunday).
Cold or not, we had the opportunity to swim in our outdoor pool as it was heated, but not being brave enough my husband and sister brought the kids to the indoor pool down the hill while my mom and I relaxed in our unit.
Everyone we dealt with were courteous, and we left our vacation refreshed and without complaint. Definitely a place we would go back to!
If connecting to nature is a top priority for your family's summer vacation, then you need to check out Smuggler's Notch Resort. My family visited the resort in August 2010 and had a fabulous vacation. The opportunities for being outdoors are endless. In fact, there was so much to do, there was no way to pack it all in. From the hikes, wikes, swimming, climbing, golf, biking, tennis and fishing to the more relaxing activities of lounging, mini golf, walks and sunning, Smuggs offers it all.
The options for child only activities and family activities are varied and creative. Your child can attend Summer Fun University while parents enjoy their own activities. Or, you can participate in the many family oriented activities offered throughout the day and evenings. You can even forgo all schedules and plan your own activities.
All in all, each member of my family enjoyed the vacation and we look forward to our next visit to Smuggler's Notch!
