What can I say? Traveling with five people is challenging, especially when three of them are kids. The Residence Inn in Amarillo offers suites (for extended stay, or weekenders alike). That, plus a roll-away bed made our stay so welcoming.
The suite had two main rooms: a living/dining/kitchen and bedroom/bath. The L-shaped couch had a pull out bed and the Inn had put a roll-away bed in our room to accommodate us. It's so nice to be able to ask for that in advance and have it in your room when you arrive. It was a very nice touch.
The kitchen area was compact, but comfortable. I loved the fact that it had a dishwasher, plates and glasses. If we wanted to eat in, we could. It also featured a two burner glass-top electric stove, a microwave, and a refrigerator/freezer. The fridge also had a list of weekly activities and menus - a real community! As the traveling mom of young kids - I was sold on just having a kitchen!
The suite had two flat-screen TVs. Although we didn't spend a great deal of time in our room, it was nice to have the kids watch their show while my husband and I could catch up on the day’s events. The Inn had a big, fluffy white bed (you know the kind that make you cringe when your kids get near it). What I liked was that each side of the bed had bedside tables. Usually, only one of us gets the table. It's nice to have your glasses or a glass of water near-by. The lavatory was just off the bedroom, but the toilet and shower were connected by a door.
Another nice thing about staying in this location was the daily meal service. They offer free evening meals during the weekdays and breakfast every morning. We ate there our first night. They had spaghetti and meatballs with a green salad and garlic bread. The staff members were nice. They sat down and visited with the guests as they could. That one thing really gave it a nice touch. It's weird, but it was nice to see people talking.
We also ate breakfast the next morning. They served eggs, hash-browns, sausage, cold cereal, yogurt, and my favorite - waffles! We ate up and were able to head out with full-tummies ready for exploration within 20 minutes - much less time than it would have taken for me to do the same thing at home.
The overall experience for this Inn was great. I felt at ease and my kids enjoyed their stay. The suite experience was a good choice for our family. I will look forward to more suite experiences in the future.
