We visited in November and had near-perfect 70-degree days to enjoy the warmth of the sun next to the pool. It is a great family-friendly hotel to stay in while visiting Palm Springs. What we liked: • Beautiful pool complex great for swimming even in Nov. • Good sized rooms with updated décor and an empty fridge • Conveniently located near downtown Palm Springs with restaurants and shopping. • A fancy lobby with a floor that changed colors and delighted our kids. • A smoke-free facility What we didn’t like: • No free amenities ($10 parking, $12.95 Wi-Fi, $5 in room water bottle, no complimentary breakfast) MODERN ROOMS We are a 6-suitcase family and so we sprawled out in 2 adjoining rooms, one with a King sized, ultra comfortable bed, and the other with 2 queen beds. Our kids found drawers and cupboards to store their shoes and clothes and then ran out on the patio overlooking the impressive pool area. Our 4th story room had a couple of chairs on a small balcony with good railings, but we were drawn to sit out at the pool area in one of the hundreds of orange and green lounge chairs and bask in the sun. Before we headed downstairs, we stored our snacks in the empty (yeah!) mini-fridge. Later that evening, we huddled around a small fire pit (in the pool area) made of rocks and enjoyed a little chat before going to bed. POOL AREA The entire courtyard inside the Renaissance is dedicated to the best thing about Palm Springs… the ever-present sunshine. Lounge chairs for basking, umbrellas for shade, private cabanas, and a very large swimming pool to cool off all invited us to relax and enjoy the afternoon. A friendly waiter brought us poolside menus with drinks, appetizers, and meals to choose from. My 4 and 6 year olds jumped in and swam on the wide steps, my older boys grabbed one of the many pool floats and started a dunking battle, while I relaxed in a chair. Although the pool was heated, I just didn’t want to get wet and cold in the quickly setting November sun. Later, we checked out the kiddie-pool (with a very large sand box for fun!), but it was unheated and very cold, so we settled into a Jacuzzi for a warm soak. I was interested to overhear other guests say that they love returning to the Renaissance because although it is not small, it is smaller and friendlier than the other very large resorts in the desert area. GREAT LOCATION Many would not consider a 4-block walk to downtown Palm Springs “within walking distance” but we decided that it was… and we enjoyed the exercise! Located less than a block and across the street is a large movie theater. We kept going and found the popular “Forever Marilyn” statue and took a family picture (and yes, looked up her skirt). One more block south along Palm Canyon Dr. brought us to a large collection of shops, restaurants, and fun touristy things to see and do. We stepped on all of the stars of the “Palm Springs Walk of Stars”, enjoyed dinner, and headed back to the Renaissance. On the downside, there were no streetlights and so the walk was quite dark. We really enjoyed being located so close to the hub of Palm Springs and we enjoyed the Palm Springs Art Museum, Bill’s Pizza, shopping, and the Aerial Tram during our visit. To note: As an additional benefit, it is located right next door to the Palm Springs Convention Center. OTHER AMMENITIES: A fine dining restaurant, DATE, and an ultra lavish lounge, ROCK, are located in the hotel and offer great menu options. Happy Hour in the lobby and around the fire pits was offered to adult guests. Spa Del Sol is open daily in the pool complex and offers many fabulous treatments. A very modern fitness center is also on site. BOTTOM LINE: I would recommend staying at the Renaissance Palm Springs Hotel because the rooms are comfortable, the location is great, and the pool is fantastic. Disclosure: We stayed at the Renaissance as complimentary guests in order to complete this review.
