This resort is SO beautiful. I love it here. We have stayed here before we had our daughter and after. I have a two year old daughter. She likes to sit at the pool and watch everything going on. She loves to be in the pool and just relax in the sun. There are 3 pools, one is a wadding pool one has a sandy beach. The rooms are beautiful and the service is top notch. The weekend we went there wasn't any kids stuff going on, but we all enjoyed ourselves and will be visiting again this summer.
We wanted to make this trip special for our (almost) three year old little girl as these are her final days as an only child. I heard about the Nickelodeon Getaway at the Renaissance Esmeralda just outside of Palm Springs. This sounded like the perfect way to make our daughter feel special but also give mommy and daddy a chance to relax before the arrival of our newborn baby.
Nickelodeon Getaway
Upon arrival we were greeted by Spongebob Squarepants and Dora the Explorer. This was the perfect start to our fun-filled weekend. Click over to view a short video of my daughter when she first saw Dora.
After spending some time with Dora we decided to hit the pool for some sun and relaxation. My husband and daughter enjoyed swimming and playing on the sandy beach while mommy enjoyed a (virgin) margarita by the pool. The resort grounds are truly beautiful with fire pits, palm trees and a poolside bar. It was quite relaxing!
We had just enough time for dinner before attending the mass sliming show hosted by Nickelodeon. Good times were had by everyone. Children were invited to compete in a game-show style competition culminating with the popping of slime-filled balloons over their heads. This was followed by a pool-side or "dive-in" movie. It was the perfect ending to a fun filled day!
We made it an early night and retired to our luxurious room. We arrived to find another surprise waiting for us. Dora had stopped by and left a special backpack loaded with a Dora themed items including a book, pillow case and photo album (Spongebob Squarepants themed backpacks are also available). My daughter was so excited to receive all of these extra special gifts. We read her a the good night story and she fell fast asleep.
The next day was our character breakfast with Dora and Spongebob. The food was great and the children really enjoyed themselves. While my husband took boo boo out for more fun at the pool, mommy was treated to the Mellow Mama Prenatal Massage at the Spa Esmeralda. This was the perfect way to be pampered after 36 weeks of pregnancy.
We stayed here over Thanksgiving weekend this year and it was very relaxing. We had the Thanksgiving buffet at their restaurant (Cava) and it was delicious! I mean seriously delicious!
My children loved the pool area - it's large, there is a seperate kid wading pool, or the kids can use the beach entrance. Yes, beach. They have a man made beach just for the little ones. They also loved the Nickolodeon activities they hotel put on (evening movies, noontime "game show", crafts and a meet the character breakfast. My kids are 4 and 3, but the Nick stuff (except the character breakfast) was really geared to 7-9 year olds. They got slimed at the gameshow!
My only gripe was that the pool was not heated enough. We barely used it because it was too cold for me and my husband.
Oh, and one more thing I would recommend. Sit out by the firepits at night and order the chocolate fondu dessert. That was super fun for the kids.
And as usual for Marriot hotels, the rooms were big, clean and well appointed. Make sure you use your AAA card and get that rate.
At the Esmeralda, there is all a family
could ask for, including a “sand” beach,
three swimming pools, lots of space to
spread out, and family-friendly rates. Up
to five guests are allowed in each spacious
room. Here is the place to kick
back and relax. Dad can try the links,
and Mom can indulge in the stunning
Spa Esmeralda. Or, if there’s a babysitter
on hand, parents can have a “couples”
treatment in one of the private suites.
Kerstin Florian products are used here.
