The unseasonably beautiful weather of early May allowed us to enjoy the adjacent mountains as well as the pools and waterslide. Tapatio Cliffs is a great family resort. Likes: · Falls Water Village-We loved the zero-depth pools, the huge hot tubs, and the waterslide. · All suite rooms-Every room is a suite with a separate living room and bedroom. The couch pulls out into a comfortable bed, so it’s great for families. · Location-Feels secluded but is close to dining and city attractions. Dislikes: · Mini Bar-The snacks were low and easy for little hands to access. · Large gaps under balcony railing. ROOMS The suites here are spacious and comfortable. The living room and bedroom are separated by a short hall with the vanity area on one side and the bathroom on the other. The bedroom closet was large enough to stow our suitcases and the dresser drawers were deep enough to easily hold our clothes. There are private balconies off of the bedroom, but beware that little ones can easily slip through the railings. There was plenty of floor space for the baby to crawl around and play in the room. Although we did have two adjoining suites, the majority of our time was spent in one, including sleeping. The suite has two queen beds and the pull-out couch. With our baby sleeping in the pack-n-play the resort provided, there were just enough beds in one suite to fit all seven of us. There is a mini-bar that is easily accessible so if you don’t want to pay $4 for a tiny bag of chips, warn children and be watchful. There is parking available by all the rooms. We were able to park directly in front of our room. If you have lots of luggage, I would advise you to request a first floor room so you can do the same. AMENITIES & FACILITIES On-site activities at this resort include golf, tennis, and best of all, swimming. There are 8 pools at Tapatio Cliffs, but the ones families will want to enjoy are in the Falls Water Village. This area offers two zero-depth pools with fountains and waterfalls, two spacious hot tubs, and a 138-foot enclosed waterslide (must be 42” to ride). The pools are heated to the perfect temperature. There are private cabanas available to rent and plenty of lounge chairs surrounding the pool. Swim diapers and life vests (or puddle jumpers) are available for guests to use, free of charge. There is parking everywhere but there are also walkways to easily connect you to the lobby and Falls Water Village from wherever your room is. FOOD OPTIONS Along with room service, there are two family-friendly dining options on-site; Pointe in Tyme (see my review under restaurants) , and Cascades Café. Cascades Café is the poolside bar and grill. There are menus hooked to every other lounge chair for you to order poolside or guests can dine at the tables under the shade near the bar. My family ate in the shade. Our server, Allen, pulled two tables together for us to fit my large family. Allen was great with the kids. He handed all of them a menu and told them their options as he did so. It was great because the kids felt special holding a menu and I didn’t have to read it to them. The variety of menu options was great. My husband enjoyed his club wrap; although he said next time he would add some sauce, like ranch. My southwest salad with chicken was large and delicious. The kids sandwiches came with fries and my son was able to substitute chips, or fruit. The kids meals were plenty big for my children. The price was typical for poolside resort dining with kids meals around $7, adult entrees around $10. LOCATION Tapatio Cliffs is literally built into the side of a cliff and surrounded by the Phoenix Mountain Preserve. Although you are in the city of Phoenix, you feel like you are out in the desert wilderness. Guests can walk from the resort, through a tunnel, and be at the preserve visitor’s center. From there, families can enjoy all levels of hikes or even mountain biking. If you want to experience more of the city life, just drive a minute or two in either direction from the resort and you’ll find shopping centers with great choices for dining, shopping, and playing. Bottomline: This is a great resort for families. The suites are perfect for families. The location offers nearby adventure when the weather’s nice and the pools provide family fun year round. I would recommend Tapatio Cliffs resort to any family visiting the Phoenix area. Disclosure: This review is based on a complimentary stay at Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs with lunch at Cascades Café, but the opinions expressed are entirely my own.
