Tucked into a grove of Aspen trees just steps from Squaw Valley's Aerial Tram and a short walk from Squaw Village's magnificent shops, dining and activities, is a wonderful little surprise that would a shame to miss! The Plumpjack Squaw Valley Inn, once the home of the 1960 Winter Olympic delegation, boasts a modern and welcoming atmosphere that is all at once casual, cozy, elegant, and unlike anything my family has seen in other Tahoe area lodges. The interior with it copper accents and lamps is dazzling, the rustic wood finishes give visitors that cabin feel you expect when you're in the mountains. The open floor plan and lay out of the inn make it easy to navigate and provide the feeling that you are visiting a home.
There is so much more to this wonderful little find, so much more, I will need to start compiling a list:
A beautiful patio with rock, iron and other natural elements in its set-up, perfect for quiet reflection or sharing hot chocolate with the family. Two hot tubs are located nearby, along with an inviting pool and perched between two trees on the lawn area adjacent to them is a hammock large enough for your entire family.
A Gourmet breakfast buffet is served daily -- if the Apple Cinnamon or the Chocolate Chip Scones are out on the bar, you MUST try them! Both were to die for! The buffet also consists of herb scrambled eggs, apple wood smoked bacon, toast, fruit, house made granola and more.
SPECIAL EVENT SERVICES
A wedding took place here during our stay and I must say, it made me want to marry my husband all over again! My kids, on the other hand, simply appreciated that it didn't keep them from being able to use the hot tub! The outdoor ceremony venue was breathtaking and the set up inside the corporate center was both simple and glamorous. The noise was also kept to a minimum and other guests in the Inn were not disturbed by the event.
A dog bed and two bowls awaited the canine member of our family when we got to our room. Dog guests are also outfitted with dog tags that read, "I'm a guest at the PlumpJack," just in case they get away from their humans. There's even a dog-friendly table with cushy seating just outside the PlumpJack dining area within view of that delicious buffet so that your pooch can breakfast with you.
Personable, helpful, and fun, the PlumpJack is run by a staff that falls into all of these categories and then some. We felt taken care of, treated like family and welcomed during our entire stay.
