There are tons of things to see around the Old Faithful area. The Inn is also very unique and kids will like wandering around and looking at everything. If you have just one small child (and a porta-crib) I recommend staying in the "old house". There are shared bathrooms, but you're staying in the historic part of the Inn and it's so much more fun than in one of the wings that just looks like a standard hotel room. For the price you can almost get 2 rooms in the old house for one in the newer wings if you have older kids that could stay in their own room. Each room in this section only has one queen bed, hence the restrictions.
Wonderful landmark in the heart of Yellowstone that puts you near trails, geysers and wildlife. There is family friendly dining although you do need reservations. You can stay in the Inn or in one of the nearby cabins. Some of the rooms in the Inn have been upgraded in recent years. It really is the best way to experience the park with kids.
