I recently spent two nights at the Moorpark Hotel in San Jose, California. My son who is six years old was playing in a local chess tournament nearby. The room was comfortable and clean. We had a little difficulty working the heating system and it was too hot, but once we figured it out, we were fine. The customer service was just right. When we arrived, we had a phone call from the front desk to inquire if our room was satisfactory. They were accommodating and quickly followed through with my request for more towels.
The lobby of the hotel is decorated with modern furniture and has a fireplace. We were busy all day, but at the end of the day, the hotel was a great place to come back to and relax at. Our room was large and had two queen size beds with a sitting area that included a large chair and desk. Bathrobes, an iron/board and coffee pot were all available for our morning wake-up routine. The hotel had a lounge on the second floor where my son could play pool or where I could slip out to make a call when my son was sleeping. The swimming pool and hot tub provided hours of fun for us. They have cabanas so, when it is too hot, you can sit by the pool in the shade.
The in-house restaurant and room service were great. When my son got hungry, we could order him a snack. They serve American food and when the weather is hot, you can eat outside by the pool. There’s a cocktail hour each night at 5PM where many of the guests talk and discuss their travel plans. They have a large continenetal buffet breakfast where you can find bacon and eggs to miso soup and rice for ten dollars a person. The staff was friendly and helpful in getting us whatever we needed.
The hotel is located close to freeway and just a few miles from downtown San Jose. There is an Applebee’s right next door to the hotel. Santana Row is close by and the staff at the front desk was happy to refer us to various delicious restaurants. There is a grocery store close by. The hotel is family friendly and a great price for all the amenities it provides. I would definitely stay at the hotel again and recommend it to other families that would be interested in it.
This review is based on a complimentary stay at the Moorpark Hotel in San Jose, California. I received no other compensation besides the hotel stay and the hotel did not express any requirement that I express a particular point of view.
This hotel is nicely appointed - modern but warm. Staff was very friendly. The rooms were very clean, bed was firm, bedding very comfortable. It felt more like a business hotel, but I works well for a family for several reasons. The prices were really good for what you get. We paid about $84 booking via Trekaroo. The second floor has all adjoining rooms which works well if you want the kids to have a separate room. Each floor also has a sitting area that you can escape to if your little one goes to bed early and you don't want to be sitting in the dark for hours. In the sitting area is a pool table and a TV.
The swimming pool is outdoors and heated. There are some nice cabanas that you can chill out under.
You can request cribs - both full size wooden cribs and pack and plays are available, so be sure to specify what you want. The front desk also said that if you call ahead and request them to purchase diapers and wipes to be available when you arrive, they will accommodate your request. The little couch in each room seats two, but is definitely wide enough for a young child to sleep on. Each room also has two chairs that you can put together for a toddler to sleep in.
There is an in-house restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, but we didn't eat there. They also offer room service.
Within walking distance are a few restaurants like Tony Romas and Applebees. It's also a short drive or long walk away from Willow Glen (cute restaurants and shops) and Santana Row.
