We loved the fairly large campsites at Mill Creek Campground located in Del Norte Coast Redwood State Park. The campground is set inside a grove of redwood trees that provide shelter from the heat and wind. Camping along the coast, you can often be fighting a lot of wind which makes for an unpleasant camping experience. This campground was close enough to the beach, but a mile and half inland. The campground had big boulders that the kids loved to climb on and a dried up creek bed that they had so much fun picking up rocks at. Lots of mosquitoes though, so bring bug spray.
Gosh, i don't remember the bathroom I am afraid. I don't think there were showers and they were probably just pretty normal which is why I don't recall them - ie. there was running water in the toilets and they were decently clean.
We loved that the campground was close to the beach. We explored some tide pools with our kids who ranged in age from 2 to 8 at the time. This campground is also pretty close to the famed Jeddiah Smith Redwood State Park with the most amazing and mysterious grove of old growth Redwood trees. If you can't get campground reservations there, this is a great alternative.
