We stayed her for two nights when the kids were 2 1/2 years & 6 months old when we were in town for a wedding. The service was great, the room was quaint and clean. At night (not late) you could hear the piano from the lobby from our room, we enjoyed the music and it lulled our girls to sleep. We had the breakfast included each morning at the hotel and the food was great! Great place to stay if you want to be close to Mount Shasta or are taking the dinner train.
Staying at a B&B with young children is always a possible disaster, but Diane and Ed were nothing but welcoming and warm to our brood. Having young grandchildren of their own, they seem to understand the needs of young families well. However, there is nothing escaping the fact that your children would be sharing an average sized 4 bedroom home with other guests, some of whom may be seeking a romantic weekend away from their kids. We were fortunate to be visiting on a weekday in the winter and we were the only guests with our 5 and 2 year olds. The big bonus is that the McCloud Railroad House is a fantastic stay for any train loving child (or adult). Ed and Diane are train enthusiasts true and true. In the backyard, they have two restored cabooses and all the train paraphernalia that you can think of. Our kids were thrilled with the tour that they gave us. This couple know and love trains and are excited to share all that they know about them. Breakfast was lovely - we had the creme brulee french toast and baked apple. It was delicious. Diane and Ed spared no expense to make us feel welcomed and their home though very traditional, was very clean. If you are worried about your children waking up other guests, share your concern with Diane and she'll make sure to organize the room arrangements to minimize any imposition you might make on other guests.
