We stayed a week here over the summer with extended family and had an amazing time. The MAZE kids zone was the best of any Marriott we have ever stayed at. The kids (ages 4-9) would go every morning for either a craft, games or storytime--all for free! Some of the bigger activities throughout the day like making tie-die t-shirts and having snow-cones were available for a charge. However, also at the pool area during the day they would have free popsicles and family interactive games. We really spent 90% of our time down at the pool area--where they also have bbq's, pool tables, a gym and a life size chess game. The villas themselves are smaller than the average villa we stay in w/ Marriott, but still decent sized. We stayed in a 2 bd., w/ 2 full baths, a full (small) kitchen, living room and dining area.
Just outside of the resort, but still on the resort property is a zip line, alpine slide and mini golf. Also on the grounds are shops, a few small restaurants and a chocolate/ice-cream shop.
It was a perfect week with all the cousins!
Closest to the slopes!
After landing in Salt Lake City only 45 minutes earlier, we found ourselves pulling into the scenic, winding drive up to the Marriott MountainSide Resort. The resort, nestled in the Wasatch Mountain Range, is easy to find just off of Park and Empire Avenues in the heart of Park City. We were totally amazed at how close we were to the base of the Park City Mountain Resort’s main slope! The snow was gently falling, making us feel like we were in a magical snow globe. Our preschooler was thrilled and even made up a playful song about falling snow. There are a few parking spaces reserved for checking in within steps of the front doors. Be sure to snap a few photos of your kiddos next to the adorable carved wooden bear holding a “welcome” sign in the covered circular driveway. It is precious!
We were warmly greeted by a very knowledgeable front desk staff. They gave us an overview of hotel amenities, a hotel map and a daily and weekly summary of resort activities. We were invited to have some coffee or flavored water which sits on a table near the front desk. They also told us about the recent renovations throughout the hotel. The lobby sparkles with a natural stone, wood and earth tone color palate—taking advantage of the natural elements surrounding the resort. Relaxing in the comfortable leather couches in the lobby near a beautiful stone fireplace was a great place to plan our day or kick back before venturing out on the slopes for another run. When we unexpectedly ran out of cold medicine, we were relieved to find a very well stocked Marketplace just off of the lobby. They also carry a wide variety of tasty snacks and other sundry items. The great news is that the prices were very reasonable on all of the items.
If your kids like the idea of a mountainside bat cave, then they will love entering the enclosed, private parking garage with a black, bat-cave like automatic garage door which seems to magically whoosh up to let you drive in or out of the small, well-lit garage with ease. Be sure to keep clear of the door….it moves quickly! Once in the garage, we found several different lobby entrances with luggage carts at the ready. We parked at the entrance closest to our room and easily unloaded our car. Bellhops are available by request only at the front desk. Finally, we made our way to our room. Some of the long hallways end in large picture windows which reveal the amazing mountain scenery. More than once, we all stopped to enjoy the view and saw other families doing the same. Our preschooler could not resist racing down the hallways and always managed to find another child willing to join in on the fun.
The Marriott MountainSide, part of Marriott’s Vacation Club, offers a variety of room sizes and layouts from a standard room to a two room villa large enough to accommodate a big family. We stayed in a spacious standard room overlooking the Park City Mountain Resort’s Payday slopes. What a view! This vantage point was a great way to observe ski conditions before walking out the door and right onto the slopes. Our room had a very comfortable large bed and a pull out sofa. There’s a TV with inputs for your portable games. Our standard room had a kitchenette which included a small refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker as well as enough flatware, glasses, mugs, plates and bowls for a family of four. We used the basic cookware items to reheat food in the microwave. The small round table with two chairs was a great place to have a cup of cocoa and a bowl of cereal. There’s plenty of pantry and counter space for food prep and storage.
There are impressive array of family friendly and adult only activities every day. For kids from ages 2-13+, there are a wide variety of organized children’s programs at The Mine. The Mine is a large, all ages welcome multi-use playroom with flat-screen televisions, craft tables, indoor wooden jungle gyms, toys, beanbag and gaming chairs as well as the coolest resort staff in Park City! Depending on the daily schedule, your tiny tots can participate in play, craft and story time activities. Later that day, your teens can compete in a variety of X-box and Wii competitions. We had a blast watching kids of all ages compete in the Guitar Hero Tournament as American Idol played on the flat-screen TV in the background. We also made several different crafts including knitting a beanie. It’s a great souvenir of our trip! On some nights, The Mine offers Girls and Kids Night In Movies and Pizza parties. Children must be five years or older to be dropped off for these activities.
Our preschooler especially enjoyed swimming in the outdoor heated pool then dipping her toes in one of the seven outdoor hot tubs. It was about 19 degrees outside but the warm water and amazing mountain scenery was simply magical. Be careful if you venture outdoors after sunset because the pool deck can be a bit icy! If you want to workout, the resort has an extensive fitness center which overlooks the pool area. There’s a friendly, helpful staff on hand to help with any of the equipment. With an elevator towards the back of the fitness center, it was easy to get to and from our room without having to walk through the lobby areas. The fitness center staff also told us about their free sleds which we borrowed to use on the gentle, less crowded slopes just outside of the resort.
We were able to stay connected while away because WiFi is available throughout the resort. There are two desktop computers available for a small fee in the downstairs lobby area. We did not need to use the business center but there is a staffed facility for faxing, copying and other business matters.
We would highly recommend staying at the Marriott MountainSide during your visit to Park City. It’s ideal location, especially if you are short on time and want to maximize every moment of your winter ski vacation, combined with a wide variety of on property amenities and activities make this a truly fantastic family vacation retreat.
“This review is based on a complimentary stay at the Park City Mountain Resort - Marriott Mountainside. I received no other compensation besides the hotel stay and the hotel did not state any requirements that I express a particular point of view.”
