We've been married for 11 years and had 2 kids, but we'd never done a warm beach vacation. What a way to start!
When you pull up to the door to this resort, the employees open your car door and say, "Welcome to paradise." They aren't lying. Our kids were immediately enchanted by a pillar of jellyfish in the lobby lounge area, and they didn't even notice check-in!
The Marco Island Marriott has luxurious, clean rooms. Ours has a mini fridge, coffee maker, safe, and balcony overlooking a pool and the beach. The place has two large pools, families are welcome at both, but the Tiki pool is targeted for kids with a waterfall, water slide, and shallower wading area with sprayers for the littlest ones. For the tiniest tots, there's a smaller, very quiet, enclosed wading pool.
Just beyond the hotel gates lies a beautiful stretch of beach. We spent hours wading, splashing, and building sand castles before cooling off in the pool.
An arcade with a variety of games is just between the pools and there's a Tiki kids club for kids 5-12 to provide a half day's worth of activities for an additional charge. Individual drop-in activities and crafts are frequent and reasonably priced. Quite a few free activities have been posted, too, most with a Nickelodeon theme.
Be sure to check out the activities out of the resort for a fee. We went on a spectacular 3-hour tour of the islands that included dolphin peeping and shell collecting. $20 for kids under 5, $50 for grown-ups. Priceless memories!
Five restaurants offer a variety of cuisine if you don't want to leave. They're pricey, so we've gone exploring -- there are a number of great places along Collier Blvd within a few miles.
Two days into vacation here and we have had an amazing time -- not a complaint.
