We just got back from 4 nights here. It was wonderful! It has good access to the beach, has lots to explore (we had lots of fun at the penguin and fish feedings), and the staff was absolutely delightful to our kids. It was pretty busy near the pools the first couple days we were there because there was a large conference there, but after that, it was very easy to get as many beach chairs as we needed.
I agree that the kiddie pool isn't that much of a kiddie pool - be sure to have reef shoes if your kids have sensitive feet.
We just got back from a week in Maui, where we stayed at the Hyatt. I think my boys would have been happy had we stayed at the hotel the entire time! LOL I will agree that the pool was crowded and you needed to get there early for a chair (or two) but the pool was great. They even have a basketball hoop and my boys enjoyed that! The kiddie pool area and slides were a big hit with my crew! We'll be back next summer!!
It's hard to complain when you're in Maui. The Hyatt Regency is a nice big resort on the Lahaina side, with plenty of pools and kid friendly atmosphere, but for the price and rather dated rooms and amenities it certainly wasn't overwhelming. Actually, when we walked down the beach path and through all the hotels on the Lahaina strip, they are seem somewhat comparable and next time we'd probably go with the cheapest hotel. The Westin and Sheraton are right next door. Also Lahaina is also the wetter side of the island so could catch a passing storm or two... we just drove over to Wailea that day which is the dry side of the island. Maui, certainly isn't as kid friendly as Honolulu, so don't be surprised to get some gruffs from honeymooners.
We just got back from our stay at the Hyatt Regency, and it absolutely left me and my family breathless!! Honestly it is by far the best Family Friendly Hotel I have ever been to. The kiddie pool is fantastically designed for optimum fun for the kids and parents. They even have a kids camp available, Macy's store, General Food stores, and tons of other shopping. My kids are 6 and 2yrs.old and they could've been in heaven just staying on the hotel grounds our entire stay. They have tons of fun swimming gear for the kids also. They're restaurants are all superb haven dined at all of them. We will be back next year for sure!
We stayed here after staying at the Grand Hyatt in Kauai. What a disappointment. The place has not been remodeled in about 20 years.
The pool is crowded, and there is not really a kiddie pool.
A positive about this hotel is that it is on Kaanapali (sp?) beach, which is just beautiful and constantally booming with people. The beach is calm, so you can feel safe taking your kids out into the water.
Camp Hyatt Kaanapali available for kids ages five to twelve, 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. and 6:00 to 10:00 P.M.
daily. The greatest adventure your keiki (kids) will ever have. Hop aboard a real Sugar Cane Train, build sandcastles, take an undersea submarine adventure, or visit the Maui Ocean Center. Meet native animals
face to face on an incredible jungle tour.
We stayed at this resort Thanksgiving week 2008, the same week as Lahaina's invitational collegiate basketball tournament. While the Hyatt is a family friendly atmosphere, they found it difficult to accommodate the crowds. After day#3 of scouting for lounge chairs by the pool and finding nothing open, we said something to hotel management, who comp'd us beach cabanas for our remaining days at the resort. As our kids are in school now, we must travel with the 'crowds'; some resorts know how to handle this, others don't. Hyatt seems to be in the latter category.
