This hotel is probably the best hotel I have every stayed at. It is soooo clean and such a great location you really can't beat it. The valet is kinda pricey thats the ONLY complaint I have. The staff was kind and respectful. I asked the cleaning woman to come back at 4 (a more convenient time for our family) and she was promptly there at 4. Such a great place to stay. I would stay here again and again. I actually probably won't stay anywhere else after this stay. It was so nice. Best hotel in Huntington/Newport BY FAR!
Living in Orange County, I have driven by the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach many times on our way to the beach, and I have always daydreamed about spending the night at the beautiful resort across the street from one of California’s most famous beaches. So when I my family had the opportunity to experience this hotel for ourselves, we were very excited. Often, families don’t consider staying at a resort so close to home (we live about a half hour away) but I am starting to realize that it isn’t the distance in miles from home that matters but the mental distance from the everyday grind that does.
The Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach is the perfect place for both a mental and physical escape. The grounds are gorgeous. They are filled with palm trees, fountains, and the wonderful Spanish architecture that California is known for. And, since the resort is directly across the street from the beach, the ocean views are incredible. As a matter of fact, a walkway over Pacific Coast Highway gives guests direct access to the beach from the hotel.
One of the most exciting things for kids when staying at a hotel is checking out the pool and this hotel certainly has plenty to get excited about. There are three different pools complexes. The main pool is large with plenty of lounge chairs for mom and dad to relax in. There is also a grill where families can get snacks (or cocktails) and fire pits where families can roast marshmallows for s’mores (s’mores kits are available for purchase at the resort and a great treat). The next area has a few small pools which surrounded by palms and are probably best suited for adults and older teens. But the best pool area for kids is the Slyders Water Playground.
Slyders has three water slides, a large spa, a pool, and a wading pool which is perfect for little ones. It’s basically pool heaven. There are life guards watching the kids in the water slide area so parents can actually just sit in a lounge chair and watch the kids splash away. Cabanas are available for rent and very popular during the summer. They include a flat screen tv, chilled water, and wireless internet. A café in the pool area provides casual food, smoothies, and cocktails. There are also a couple of fire pits perfect for those chilly nights when the ocean breezes pick up.
One of the great things about staying at the Hyatt Huntington Beach with kids is the Camp Hyatt program. Potty trained kids aged 3-12 can sign up to enjoy this program which in partnership with National Geographic Kids, provides “adventures loaded with eco-friendly activities, animal crafts and facts, photo safaris and tons of locally inspired activities.” While the kids are at Camp Hyatt, parents can sneak away for a couple hours at the Pacific Waters Spa or a child free meal at The Californian.
For the meals that you will be sharing with your children, Pete’s Sunset Grille offers great casual dining in a surf themed atmosphere. My family ate there and really enjoyed the food and beachy atmosphere. There is also Tower 15 Pizzeria, which serves, as you guessed pizza; the Californian for more upscale dining, and room service available.
In addition to multiple dining options on site, there are also a few little shops to explore, a small grocery store, an arcade, and Toes on the Nose, a surf apparel and rental shop. Here you can rent beach cruisers, chairs, sand toys, umbrella, surfboards, body boards, wetsuits- essentially everything you need for a great day at the beach. They also provide surf lessons, stand up paddling lessons, kayaking tours, and even beach cabana rental with butler service!
With all this talk about amenities, I almost forgot to mention the actual rooms! The rooms are very nice with clean contemporary décor and beautiful balconies (ours had an ocean and pool view. Very swanky!) Most rooms have either one king bed or two queens. Cribs are available upon request. I do wish that they had some rooms with suite style accommodations (aka: a place for parents to hang when the kids go to bed) and honestly that is my only complaint about the resort. Everything else was above and beyond my expectations.
Bottom line: If I have friends coming out to Orange County who are looking for a few days at Disneyland and a few days enjoy the sunshine at the beach, this is the hotel I am going to recommend. The Hyatt is truly a fantastic resort for families who are looking to have an amazing Southern California experience. I am also going to recommend this resort to friends who want to get away but don’t want to have to drive for hours or fly across the sea. Its truly a California gem.
Disclosure: My family received a complimentary stay at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach which included dinner at Pete’s Sunset Grille and breakfast at the Californian in order to review this property. The Hyatt did not request that I express any particular opinion and, as always, all opinions are entirely my own.
We have stayed at this Hyatt twice. Once as a couples escape and most recently as a family getaway. I loved it both times! There is so much to do at the hotel from shopping to roasting smores on the courtyard fire pits to long days hanging by the kids pool ( complete with three water slides ). The beach is across the street and the downtown area is a mile down the road. Hyatt often runs a deal where if you book two rooms, one room is 50% off. Perfect for my family of 5.
The Hyatt Huntington Beach is directly across from the expansive, beautiful beach - you simply walk across the hotel's pedestrian bridge to cross Pacific Coast Highway. As you depart the pool area, they offer towels and beach toys that you can take to play for the day. Upon returning from the beach, you can enjoy a swim back in the hotel pool which is heated and has underwater speakers. Nice workout facilities, reasonable on resort dining for breakfast lunch and dinner, including a poolside menu. Marketplace where you can buy snacks and supplies for nightly "smores" that you cook over a fire pit poolside. Also an arcade, bike rentals, and spa for adult relaxation. 5-minute drive from the Huntington Beach pier that is the original Surf City home, where you can watch world class surfers ride the waves!
This is a nicely-situated hotel. It is near everything you would want to do in Huntington Beach and is a very nice hotel. The hotel is pricey, but if you feel like splurging, its in a great location, you have a beautiful view, and the staff treats you right.
Garden and ocean views from 517 guest rooms and 57
suites in Andalusian-inspired style. This luxurious hotel directly across from the beach via a pedestrian walkway features three restaurants (the Californian for fine dining, Pete Mallory’s Surf City Sunset Grille, and Mankota’s Grill poolside), the Village shopping plaza, and the 20,000- square-foot Pacific Waters Spa.
Two Camp Hyatt children’s programs are offered daily from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. starting at $40 per child. Campers receive a welcome gift upon arrival and a packet describing on-site activities. Kids ages three through seven can become Camp Hyatt Beach Clubbers and make shell necklaces, do beach sand art, and roast s’mores by the fire. The SophistiKids program for youth ages eight through twelve includes cool pool and beach play, koi fish feeding, or surfboard making.
Other options include parents and kids shared spa treatments as well as Adventure Hyatt programs such as kayaking, learning to surf, and sportfishing tours.
