While we have not stayed at the Hotel Del, we have visited as an attraction and spent countless hours on their beautiful beaches. Because of the hotel, the beach is kept very nice, and it is just a quick walk up the sand to lunch or dinner at the hotel.
There is a ton of interesting history at this hotel that I look forward to sharing with my little ones as they get older. For the time being, they are mostly interested in sand castles.
I have stayed in the hotel on business, not with my kids but you can't beat the location. The particular stretch of beach in front of this hotel is absolutely amazing. Wide and flat, just wonderful.
The hotel itself is split into two parts - old (classic/historical) and newer (more modern/contemporary). If you care where you stay, you should definitely look at the rooms online and make a request before you arrive.
One more thing to note - they are a conference center, and a big one at that, so you might want to just ask if they are having any large groups in while you are vacationing there.
I was lucky enough to stay here with my mom when I was younger. It was lavishly decorated and had surrounding ocean views from almost every room. The hotel was friendly and the beach was clean and fun. The hotel has a lot of amenities for families and kids won't get bored! I have to admit that I don't really remember too much activity wise that the hotel had to offer from when I was there, but after looking online, I can say that there is a lot now! Guests can enjoy swimming, kayaking, surfing, fishing, yoga, tennis, golf and bicycling, with lessons offered for all ages. Guests can rent sailboats, water skis, jet skis and paddle boats. They also offer supervised childcare program as well as programs for teens. I can't wait to go here again soon! :)
My kids were so psyched to hang out a the gorgeous beach at the Hotel Del Coronado. This luxurious hotel has beautiful rooms and ocean views. The town is cute and the overall area is perfect for walking and bike riding. The hotel has daily kids activities, offers surging lessons, and rents a variety of bikes including cruisers, tandems, and surreys. The restaurant is excellent and welcomes families.
This hotel is so reminiscent of the past with it's mahogany wooden trim all over it gives you the feeling of being in the 50s. The grounds are immaculate and the beach is beautiful. The cabanas that overlook the gigantic pool are very picturesque. Watch out for ghosts...we hear there's the occassional visitor from the past...
classic famous hotel. a bit pricey. nice that it's right on the beach and great pools. must have a hot dog on the deck (and a bloody mary for mom and dad!)
“The Del,” as the hotel is known here, has attracted the rich and famous, including thirteen U.S. presidents, since its opening in 1888. The turrets, tall cupolas,
hand-carved wooden pillars, and Victorian filigrees of this stunning, magnificently restored 691-room National Historic Landmark resort have served as the backdrop for many movies and films.
So much history has unfolded within the Del’s walls that a cassette walking tour has been made available. For example, at its opening more than a century ago, it was the largest structure outside New York City to be electrically lighted, and the installation was supervised by Thomas Edison himself!
Today the Del offers a wide variety of accommodations to suit any family’s taste and pays close attention to the
needs of children, with special programs, babysitting services, and children’s menus. Choose from the formal main dining room, two restaurants, and a twenty-four-hour deli. The Del’s beach provides great swimming and sunbathing, plus rental boats, windsurfers, and paddleboats. Just watch out for some of the smaller, original rooms, and you’ll be in grand shape at this venerable place. World-renowned and definitely worth a visit!
