Right now WV is undergoing on a lot of construction on their highways running north and south, and because of that it is very difficult to find a place to stay on the spur of the moment. We drove down to TN from NY, and WV was our halfway point. We had decided to drive until we were ready to pull over and find a hotel. Little did we know this was going to be an issue. We tried a few hotels, and drove through (and out of) full parking lots of others. Finally we stopped at the Holiday Inn in Clarksburg-Bridgeport and were able to get a room.
It wasn't as easy as that though. They were booked solid, but it was well after midnight, and the one booking they had hadn't shown. The man at the desk asked my husband (my kids and I were in the car) if it was just him, and when he told them about us (wife and three kids), he canceled the booking and put us up. That was a godsend.
My husband came out to get us, and when we were going to the door near our room the key didn't work. So, my husband went in through the lobby and came to the hall where we were standing outside. He let us in, but the key didn't work in our room either. He went back to the lobby and talked with the man again, and he actually came with my husband after fixing the keys to make sure they worked, and he was also carrying three cookies; one for each kid. I couldn't get over how friendly he was.
The next day we went to their restaurant in the hotel for breakfast. Because it's a Holiday Inn kids eat free. All we had to do was pay for our meals and drinks, and their drinks. We got a nice breakfast for a decent price. Our server was wonderful and made sure we had everything we wanted, and then handed us two "to-go" cups to put more coffee in for the road. I was in heaven :)
Every person we encountered there was very friendly, and I have already recommended this hotel to friends who were driving through (and stopping in) WV the following week.
If we were staying in this area for some reason longer than one night we would definitely stay here.
One word of warning...the rooms have full sheers, but not full drapes. We like our room dark, so we had to work with the drapes and the lamp to cover up the window as best as possible. Otherwise, the room was great!
