The rooms at Hofsas House are so comfy and cozy, my family felt more like we were visiting the home of a beloved relative rather than staying in a hotel. Flowery bedspreads, cushy chairs and fireplaces are among the homey touches in every room. Dried flower arrangements and colorful wallpaper adorn the walls and lacy curtains accent the windows.
But that's just the beginning of what we loved about the Hofsas House, there's so much families will appreciate:
My family was lucky to stay in what was the Hofsas family suite. One of the original cottages on the property when it was purchased by Fred and Donna Hofsas, they actually lived in this two room suite when the business first opened its doors. There are two double beds in one room and a queen in a separate bedroom. It also had a nice kitchenette, fireplace and an eating area with table and chairs framed by a large picture window.
We also greatly appreciated having access to two bathrooms! Now that my oldest is a preteen, the single bathroom included in the typical vacation lodging has become a battleground. It was so nice to not have to demand entry and simply go use the other one!
Even our dog found reasons to love the Hofsas House! Not only was she presented with a Frisbee at check-in, there was a clean dog bed awaiting her in our room along with a bag of treats and a dog shampoo sample!
There are so many fun extras at the Hofsas House, among those we enjoyed were:
• A continental breakfast each morning
• A s'mores kit that we took to the beach and enjoyed under the stars while sitting around a campfire (the kit even included items for making a campfire!)
OTHER REASONS TO STAY HERE
• While my family of four was in Carmel for a weekend getaway, the Hofsas House can accommodate your next family reunion, club gatherings or meetings. A generous-sized room off of the pool area can make it easy to bring your group with you. It also includes access to a small kitchenette.
• You can leave your car here and go exploring. The Hofsas House is within walking distance of all that visitors love about Carmel --- art galleries, parks, Carmel Beach, quirky shops, and delicious restaurants. Like the hotel, many of these places are dog-friendly as well.
• You would be staying at a family-run business. While Donna Hofsas is no longer with us, her granddaughter Carrie now runs the place. Who better to understand what a family-friendly hotel entails like the third generation of a family-run business?
Disclosure: Thanks to Hofsas House for hosting my family. Although my family received complimentary lodging, my reviews are always my own opinions and are not influenced by staff or its affiliates.
Large families wishing to visit Carmel-by-the-Sea need look no further than Hofsas House Hotel. I stayed in the roomy Family Suite with two adults and three children under the age of six. Would I stay here again? You betcha.
This suite contains a king bed in one room and two queens in the second room. There are two spacious bathrooms, each with bathtubs and a vanity area. Suites include either a fireplace or a dining area and either a full kitchen or a microwave and a refrigerator.
The bedspreads are pastel and flowery, the headboards are brass, and the lamp shades have tassels. If you’re into modern décor, as I am, Hofsas House may not be for you. However, with that being said, I still enjoyed my stay here tremendously. I especially loved the Dutch front door. It kept the children amused all weekend!
In Carmel-by-the-Sea, (otherwise known as Carmel) businesses and houses have no street numbers, rather houses have names! On the last day of my trip, I took the kids for a leisurely drive around Carmel’s unique neighborhood; the house handles are fabulous! With names like Dog’s Breath, Carmelized, Woof House, The Sandbox, Somewhere, and Little Sur; a Tour ’de Suberb will leave your wee one’s giggling all the way home.
Hofsas House offers its guests a s’mores kit complete with everything families need to build a fire to cook them with! Did I mention that it’s legal to build a fire on the beach in certain areas in Carmel?
My room came with a complimentary bottle of wine and yummy cheeses from a local shop. Delish!
Your stay at The Hofsas House includes a continental breakfast with or without complimentary concierge service (they can bring breakfast to you.) If Hofsas House Hotel was just a camper shell with a mattress thrown inside, I would still book a stay here for the morning pastries from Paris Bakery. My advice to first time visitors, wear pants with large pockets. Stuff your pockets with as many pastries as possible, and then drive them over to my house immediately. Got that?
The Hofsas House is a four story building without an elevator. If you need help with your luggage or a stroller, someone from the front desk will gladly assist you.
While the hotel is just a short walk from Carmel’s main attractions, on the way to dinner, my two youngest children demanded piggy back rides after just 4 minutes of walking. If you have young children, bring a stroller.
Disclosure: I received complimentary lodging as a guest of The Hofsas House. The Hofsas House did not request that I express any particular point of view and my reviews always reflect my honest opinions.
