Hilton Santa Cruz/Scotts Valley

"Great location for exploring Santa Cruz area"

We came out here in June 2010 for a Father's Day weekend in the Santa Cruz/Scotts Valley area. The hotel was the ideal location for it all since we had to make sure that Dad got to catch a little golf and we also wanted to hit up the Mystery Spot, Roaring Camp, Natural Bridges and the Santa Cruz boardwalk. However, if you're just looking to hang out at the Santa Cruz beach all weekend, then you probably want to find a hotel in Santa Cruz near the coastline instead.

ROOMS
We stayed here two nights. The first night was in a standard double queen and it was great. Clean, modern and as they like to say "well-appointed." There was a microwave, fridge for food, drinks and our first and definitely not my last bag of pretzel M&Ms.  

Since our 3 year old was still sleeping in a crib and is too big for a pack n play, we turned the couch around and turned it into a make-shift crib (the hotel didn't have any bed bumpers). It was just the right size for our 3.5 foot little man and he fell right asleep.

I unfortunately never sleep when in the same room with my son, so we decided to pay and upgrade ourselves to one of the suites for the next night. Talk about living large. The room was enormous and had 1.5 bathrooms which was great when our son had turned in for the night and we were enjoying some adult time in the living room area. We were able to go to the bathroom without having to tiptoe through the bathroom which was great.

The master bath was enormous and had a shower and jacuzzi tub which was divine. Loved the upgrade every bit.

DINING
We ate at hotel restaurant, Cafe Max for breakfast and it was ok. I had pancakes and they were a bit soggy which was a disappointing. They did have a childrens' menu which is always helpful and the service was good.

SERVICES/AMENITIES
The fitness center is standard and the outdoor pool was clean although not heated. Since the weather in Santa Cruz is usually cool, but not sweltering, the water was a bit cold.

Free WiFi and a USAToday is always greatly appreciated. We also got to experience the Roaring Camp package which one of the highlights of our trip.

BOTTOMLINE: If you're thinking of heading out here and checking out Roaring Camp, I would recommend staying at the Hilton for their Roaring Camp package. It was a good deal and made for a great location to enjoy all the other hot spots in the area. It's the only 4-star place in Scotts Valley that's close to Roaring Camp, so if comfort is key... this is your place.
