I stayed here Thursday - Sunday during a conference in downtown San Diego. Wow. I did not have ear plugs and on Thursday night I didn't get barely any sleep. I am not sure if the walls are thin, but I heard the slamming of hallway doors all night long along with beeping from trucks loading and unloading whatever. I walked my tired self to CVS for ear plugs (a friend of mine was given some, I should have asked the front desk) and switched rooms. The next room I had was near the pool. This had it's own noise issues but at least it was a low hum, versus sharper noises like door slamming, etc. That is, until the drunk people came back after the bars closed at 1am or whatever it is. They were screaming in the hallways and in their rooms. I rarely complain, but I called down to the front desk to have security come.
The rooms are small, but swanky. The amenities are expensive if you have a kid who likes to raid the mini bar. The pool area is probably more family friendly during the week, though there are a lot of scantily clad younger people. Our waitress at the pool restaurant had a bikini top on and pants hanging revealingly low. There is a Pinkberry in the hotel and lots of cool rock and roll memorabilia. I spent some time in a suite, which seemed quieter and more kid friendly if you can splash out for it.
Basically, this hotel is really well located if you are attending anything at the convention center and can be fun if you're staying without the kids and planning on staying up really, really late. Again, I can't speak for how it's like Sunday night - Wednesday. But it is definitely not kid friendly on the weekends and I've heard this from many other people too.
