This dining room is lovely and a bit upscale--perfect for date night! We brought our three-year-old son and enjoyed our meal, but if you have wiggly children, you might opt for the more child-friendly bar area and just order from the dining room menu.
The other cool thing about the establishment is that while the Commander's Room has gourmet choices with perfectly paired entrees and sides, you can still order something that will suit the kids taste buds from the bar menu.
The view from the dining room is unbeatable -- great expanses of open lawns cascading down the sea.
Our son had the fish and chips from the bar and it was a huge portion, great quality, and made him a happy camper. We brought a few toys into the dining room to keep him entertained while we were waiting and the wait staff were very friendly and understanding of family needs.
We enjoyed lamb and steak and really were making noises and commenting throughout the entire meal -- we were very appreciative, impressed eaters that evening! Completely satiated and thoroughly convinced the chef here found their true calling, we left the building still going on and on about how great it was.
Bottom line: The dining room isn't as kid-friendly as a Chuck E. Cheese, but you'll certainly get a meal that is far superior! They are understanding of families and it's a great place for a date night while grandma has the kids. If you have older kids, you'll have no problem. Being that they allow you to order off of the bar menu, kids of all ages and picky adults will be happy. The dining room menu is short but not sparse in flavor and quality. A great choice!
Disclosure: We received a complimentary meal at the Hotel Halsingland's Commander's Room. This in no way influenced our opinion and we would eat here each and every time we were in Haines...it was that good! Thank you!
