Great Wolf Lodge is an excellent place to spend a night or two during the cold winter. Our kids were thrilled when we arrived at this massive estate. The lodge is rustic looking and has giant wolf statues everywhere. The inside lobby is set to look like a cabin in the woods. The check-in process was a breeze. We arrived right at 1pm. Although check-in time is 4pm, the lodge allows you to use the water park starting at 1pm on your check-in day. We were lucky enough to have our room ready at 1pm. The lodge supplies you with wristbands that work as your room key, water park entry pass, and, if you choose, can also be linked to your credit card. There was no need to carry any loose items; it was so convenient!
We decided to upgrade and stay in the "wolf den suite". The kids had their own space complete with bunk beds and a little television. The room was huge and came with a mini-fridge and microwave. Our room was right around the corner from the water park; less than a 1 minute walk. The water park was truly amazing. The kids loved the water play structure and smaller water slides. They also had bigger slides that my 4 year old really enjoyed. The park was not crowded and we stayed and played until 6 pm. We took the kids outside of the resort for dinner; the dinner options onsite are very pricey. At 8pm, the lodge hosted a "story telling". The Great Wolf himself came to tell the kids a bedtime story. We will definitely be visiting this park in the future.
This was our first family vacation. We were meeting with my husband's brother's family while there. While making reservations we requested to be put close together. They linked our reservations for us and we were on the first floor, side by side...perfect. This is a fantastic resort for families with children of all ages. They have really done a GREAT job of making so many parts of the resort kid friendly--from within the waterpark to bedtime story times and even amazingly fun decor and gaming systems in each room. We got the kiddie camp suite which had a queen size bed for us, a couch, mini fridge, microwave, coffee pot, table/chair, patio, and a separate room for the kids with bunk beds, tv, and video game system. There was enough room for me to add in a pack and play to the kids space as well. Everything was very clean and didn't have the mildew, water park smell I was expecting. We did a meal plan package which was a great savings for our family. The story time in front of the clock is a fun nightly activity and the water park is useful for all ages. The location is also perfect, being just outside the heart of Williamsburg's main drag, outlets, and historical locations. If you need a less expensive place to eat, there are many options within a few minutes of the hotel. If you have very young children, I recommend tag teaming with another family to allow for personal preferences as well as to allow the adults time to explore the older-geared rides/activities.
The water park was not overly loud and did not feel too humid or knock you down with a chlorine smell which I had been worried about. I believe the water system uses a salt-based cleansing rather than the chlorine which is why there isn't that chemical smell. They do a great job regulating the temperature of the indoor water area as well as the water in all areas of the park. Flotation devices are provided for you and are better than average. If the kids/adults grow tired of swimming, there are outdoor bars, a playground and a mini golf area (addt'l cost for golf).
Great safety aspects with multiple attentive, lifeguards stationed throughout the park--inside and outside.
We will definitely return, esp. as our 1 and 3 yo grow older and learn to swim.
While this is a great place for a winter escape I had a few concerns during our stay:
The quality of the food particularly for dinner is not that great in relationship to the cost.
In an effort to provide family friendly lodging Great Wolf neglects the area of luxury expected from a resort. The linens are not soft, the toiletries are not very high quality.
There are numerous dining options around Williamsburg offering kids dine free option. I would opt for one of those in lieu of eating at the resort.
Also note that souvenirs from the resort are very pricey

If you are parents of wee little ones, don't waste your time on Disney! This is SO NICE to have all the activities 1 minute away from your room. Naps and diaper changes without all the drama of going back and forth to the hotel. So much to do and even a Starbucks for the parents! 2 thumbs up!
I actually expected our trip to be much worse than it was. I kind of figured it'd be dirty and cramped and our room was very spacious and clean. The kids bunk beds were great and I love having everything under one roof. The food is pricey so it's almost essential to bring some of your own. One problem we had was that the fridge didn't work well and some milks we had bought went bad. But the front desk and manager were all wonderful and we got a new fridge and new milks given us to. One downside is that parents here have a tendency to let their kids run crazy without paying attention to anything that they're doing. But if there's any "unruly" behavior- you can let the front desk know and they'll take care of it right away. Great time and great rides!
We went to GWL for a two night stay and I was very pleased. I had read review on line and some was good and some was not so good. So I really didn't know what to expect. But when I got there everything was great. The front desk clerk name was Danielle and she was very polite, interactive with my four year old daughter and very informative. The elevator smelled maybe they shouldn't have put carpet in them but that is to be expected when you have wet kids running around all day and night. The room was very clean, roomy, fresh smelling. I love the balcony. The water park was great. I loved the wave pool and Jacuzzi the best. I'm not big on slides due to being scared of heights. The outside pool was very nice also. There an outdoor playground for kids which my daughter played on for a good little while. The game room was a big hit with my daughter. We didn't eat at the GWL due to us being on a budget. There were numerous of restaurants and groceries store around. We used a discount code so the room wasn't overly priced. There were plenty of parking spaces. This was a great trip and I have decided to make it an annual vacation for my family.
My family has stayed at the Williamsburg Great Wolf Lodge each winter for the past 5 years. Mom loves the spa. While the waterpark remains a thrilling attraction, packed with slides and spouts and splashy fun for kids of all ages, the other amenities have gotten progressively worse. The food is extremely limited, HORRIBLE and overpriced. Do not get the buffet. When it's open (which is rare), just don't. Also, don't think about ordering room service, or trying to get coffee whenever you want. The hotel has scaled back a bit on the food services - there were originally 5 dining options here, but I guess people wizened up and started eating elsewhere. Room service is limited to dinner only, buffet only on weekends, coffee shop and pizza place only open a few hours, which means the only place open all day is the snack shop in the waterpark. I hope you like nachos.
Advice: Go, play, but make a plan to eat elsewhere. There's an IHOP and chick-fil-a around the corner, Pit's BBQ is a favorite with locals, and Williamsburg has just about every other restaurant imaginable. You'll pay less and be more satisfied.
If you are looking for a place to take the kids, this is the one. First of all, the staff are helpful and courteous, a huge plus in my book when you're traveling with kids. They will bend over backwards to help. This is one of those rare places where you never have to leave the hotel to have fun. A full waterpark complete with kiddie area, young childrens slides, adult slides, wavepool, hot tub, fun tree-house full of sprays and splashes, etc. (check out the website) that kept our kids (3 and 6, respectively) occupied from morning to night. It was a blast for all of us. When we got tired of being wet, the arcade, with all the lights and noise, was a fun respite. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were available both as buffet and menu options in one of two themed restaurants. The hotel hallways even double as a game site for a specialized role-playing game that all the kids (3 and up with help) can enjoy. You can even get a few hours to yourself for a little extra cash. The Cub Club offers fun activities and on-site babysitting at certain times. Although expensive by hotel standards, when you factor in the cost of visiting a waterpark, the included admission makes it resonable. The least expensive of the GWL our family has visited, I heartily reccommend it. I can not say enough great stuff about this place.
It was so much fun and the kids loved it i had been dying to go there everytime i pass it on the highway and it was just absolutely amazing and a lot of fun a good thing for families and kids absolutely have more fun then you could ever imagine!!! I will most definately go back soon!!!!!!
My son chose to go to the great wolf lodge instead of having a birthday party! that in itself speaks volumes to the family fun you will find here! the rooms are clean and suited for families! We have stayed in the wolf den and the kid cabin rooms and both were great! The waterpark is sure to please all. We loved the great wolf lodge so much we never ventured outside the hotel the entire trip!
a great place for families, especially with younger children or children of various ages! the indoor water park is a great size ~ not too big where families divide and conquer and can't reconnect, and not too small where there is not enough variety!
the actual rooms are adorable if you opt for a special room with a kids cabin inside!
the service is very friendly!
the entire resort is very clean!
there is a short show with animated characters in the lobby each evening ~ simple and cute!
following the show, there is a bedtime story right there! it is cute b/c kids come in their pajamas!
you can buy special wands at their store and walk around the hotel to activate certain things and play simple interactive games with it. many kids do this, but we thought it was pricey for the wands, so we did not.
there are checkers tables in the hallways which we enjoyed!
the decor is very log-cabinny! my daughter thinks they should call the place "Great Wood Lodge" since it is so woodsy-looking!
overall, a great place that we can't wait to revisit!
This family resort captures the Northwoods atmosphere with a massive stone fireplace and wood beams in its grand lobby, but you won’t be roughing it. There’s also a Pizza Hut on the premises, a 75,000-square-foot indoor
water park, an outdoor pool, a spa, food
stops, and an arcade. A spectacular animated
clock in the lobby has shows three times a day (the littlest ones will love this clock), and there’s Story Time every night at 8:15, with classic tales and new ones read to the comforting sound of a crackling fire.
