"What a surprise!"
I was truly pleasantly surprised by the Grand Hyatt Washington DC because I wasn't expecting too much from it. I was completely proven wrong; it was a wonderful experience! The location is fantastic since it is so close to everything and the prices were amazing! The hotel itself was decorated very nicely and the rooms were shockingly spacious. The pool wasn't anything to write home about in my opinion, but my kids liked it so that is all that matters.

"Grand Hyatt Is Grand"
In the interests of full disclosure I won a two-night stay at a Hyatt. I had intended to use the prize to stay in New York, but our plans changed once we realized our daughter was playing a volleyball tournament at nearby D.C. Convention Center. The Grand Hyatt was in walking distance of the Convention Center. The hotel has spacious rooms with a flat screen TV, fridge, and coffee maker. All guest rooms overlook the lobby. There is a lake in the middle of the lobby on the ground floor. The restaurant overlooks the lake.

"Catch the Metro from the lobby"
It doesn't get better than this. You don't even have to leave this hotel to catch the Metro because you do so right from the lobby! Very cool. It is also just a 10 minute walk to the Mall and other major attractions.
We took our grand kids with us and got a good senior rate - about $80. We also got a 50% off coupon for the breakfast buffet which made a easy and good start to the day with the little ones.
The staff was very helpful and the rooms were clean. Don't order in room movies though. $18 each. That was a shocker on the bill. The rooms were a little noisy. You could hear people early in the morning outside the door.
It was nice ot have Starbucks and a sports bar in house. The pool didn't look too inviting, but we had plenty else to do. Parking is expensive $24 and limited.

"Get off the metro and walk in the lobby!"
The best part about this hotel is that you walk straight to the metro without even having to leave the hotel! It has a metro stop below the hotel which makes for easy access if you are toting children around with you. This hotel has a partnership with Babies Travel Lite where you can order what you will need (food, diapers, etc) and have it sent to the hotel. We didn't take advantage of this because we didn't know at the time. The pool looks much bigger in pictures than it really is. It is indoors and is not really worth the trip. The breakfast is wonderful and even your pickiest eater will be able to find something to eat. The staff is friendly and welcoming for children. Even though this is a more business oriented hotel, there are families with kids of all ages running around everywhere!
