"Nothing out of the ordinary, but clean and comfortable and reasonably priced."
We stayed at the Gold Dust West while we were attending a wedding over the Fourth of July weekend. Even with directions, it was very difficult for us to find the hotel. The lobby is extremely smoky. The rooms are less smoky but the odor is still present even in non-smoking rooms. I'm sure this is true of virtually every hotel in Nevada. The rooms are your typical hotel room, beds, television, restroom, window. The on-site bowling alley is a smoke-free environment and is reasonably priced. We took our 3 year old son to bowl on a Saturday morning, and we were the only ones there. It was a great start to our fun, busy day. After riding the train, seeing a movie, and going to a wedding, we returned in time to hear the outdoor concert and see the town's Fourth of July fireworks that were on display at our hotel. Rather than crush in with the people at the concert, we simply went out to the parking lot, sat on the curb, and had a perfect view of the fireworks over the building. Very few other people had the idea to do this, so it was a quiet and pleasant way to view the show.
