This privately owned property
operated by Xanterra is actually one
resort with two hotels: the luxurious,
historic 1927 sixty-six-room Furnace
Creek Inn (open only mid-October to
mid-May) and the more family-friendly
224-room Furnace Creek Ranch, circa
1933, open year-round. Choose the
ranch for you and the kids and the inn
for a couple’s private romantic getaway.
Wandering around the western-theme
ranch grounds, you’ll feel like you’ve
been transported back to the 1800s but
with all the twenty-first-century amenities:
air-conditioning, TV, telephones, a
spring-fed swimming pool, tennis
courts, and a children’s playground. Ride
a horse (except in summer season,
when it’s too darn hot to trot), take a
hike, or challenge your kids to a game of
horseshoes. Visit the general store for a
quick snack and some great gifts. Check
out the antique stagecoaches, mining
tools, and the steam locomotive at the
Borax Museum. Visit the eighteen-hole
Furnace Creek Golf Course, the world’s
lowest golf course at 214 feet below sea
level. For year-round casual, American style
dining ($$), choose from the Wrangler
Steakhouse and Buffet, the 49’er
Cafe, and the Corkscrew Saloon.
