"Very Clean"
Virginia Beach is full of motel-like properties, very much like Atlantic city. It is very hard to find a clean and quaint property and you often end up paying lots of money or having to stay in Williamsburg.
The Founders Inn has Indoor and Outdoor swimming pool very large and nice bathrooms with double vanity which we found very useful for our family.
We loved the architecture and the lovely sense of history at the property.
Not so pleased with the dining options but we often eat out

"Fabulous Outdoor Pool + Milk & Cookies at Night!"
When I was researching my family's recent trip to Virginia Beach, I originally wanted to stay on the oceanfront. However, after the shock of the $250+ per night price tag (during prime time, 3rd week of July), I realized I would have to stay elsewhere.
The Founders Inn had a special rate going on called "95 Days for $95." When I learned that they also offer a free shuttle to the oceanfront (during the busy summer season), I thought I'd give it a try (ironically, I never ended up using the shuttle because we had no trouble driving ourselves and parking at the beach).
I am pleased with my decision. I feel I got excellent value for my money. The hotel is located in the Kempsville/Centerville area of Virginia Beach, about 20 minutes from the oceanfront and a hop, skip and a jump from Norfolk and Portsmouth. There are lots of shops and restaurants nearby. It was convenient to the major roads in the area, yet quiet, with beautiful grounds, and a lovely lake with a fountain, ducks and swans.
From a kid's perspective, there are many things worthy of a mention:
1. The lovely, zero-entry, large outdoor pool with fountains, and the 25-foot water slide that drops into its own miniature 4-foot pool (open seasonally).
2. The free kid's movie shown on Friday nights at the outdoor pool (summer only).
3. A smaller indoor pool in case of rain or cold temps.
4. Milk and cookies every night at 7 pm in the lobby!
5. Pasta Night on Thursdays at the Swan Terrace (order the type of pasta, type of sauce and add-ons, and they cook it for you right on the spot... yum!)
6. Small, but decent playground.
7. Lounge area with a Wii, a few board games and light refreshments.
From an adult perspective, I appreciated the nice grounds, ample free parking, very comfortable queen-sized beds, and I'm sure the spa was nice (didn't have time to use any of its services).
The hotel was not completely perfect. There were little problems here and there, but nothing we couldn't handle. For example, as nice as the pool was, the lounge chairs needed to be restrung (white was rubbed off where people's feet had been) and the towels were pretty small. Also, the tile in our bathroom appeared not to have been renovated like the rest of the room. Communication with the front desk staff at check-in was a little iffy.
However, for the most part, this was a great decision. I got a nicely decorated, comfortable and clean room, ample free parking, a good nightly rate, and some terrific amenities, especially the outdoor pool and the nightly milk and cookies! The Founder's Inn & Spa is a good choice for families if you are active and want to be able to easily get to most Hampton Roads attractions and still come home to a relaxing dip in the pool.

Chesapeake Conference Center. Additional attractions in the area
include Lynnhaven House.
Features.
Dining options at Founders Inn and Spa include a restaurant and a
bar/lounge. Room service is available 24 hours a day. Recreational
amenities include an outdoor pool, an indoor pool, a health club, a
spa tub, and tennis courts. There is a full service health spa on
site. This 3.5 star property offers meeting rooms for small groups,
audio visual equipment, and business services. Wireless Internet
access is available in public areas. This Virginia Beach property
has event space consisting of banquet facilities, conference rooms,
and a ballroom. The property offers an airport shuttle (surcharge).
Guest parking is complimentary. Additional property amenities
include valet parking, gift shops/newsstands, and currency
exchange.
Guestrooms.
There are 240 guestrooms at Founders Inn and Spa. Bathrooms feature
shower/tub combinations and hair dryers. Guestrooms offer voice
mail and complimentary weekday newspapers. Air conditioned rooms
also include coffee/tea makers, blackout drapes/curtains,
electronic/magnetic keys, and irons/ironing boards. Housekeeping is
offered and guests may request wake up calls. Cribs (infant beds)
are available on request.
