When I walked into the office of the Esplanade I was feeling a little frazzled from the events of my evening. However, I was greeted with a friendly smile by Kayla, given my key and parking directions, and told to feel free to stop in the office at any time and not to hesitate to ask for anything I might need. Kayla even popped up to my room a short time later to make sure we were settling in okay.
I went up to our room, which was a One Bedroom Suite, and was pleasantly surprised as soon as I opened the door. I didn't feel as if I was walking into a hotel room but a small scale apartment. It is bright and colorful and has been tastefully decorated in a beachy theme.
The living area features tiled floor, a couch that pulls out to a queen size sleeper, a coffee table, eating table, and a flat screen TV with DVD player. The kitchenette features a microwave, fridge, and stove top, allowing you the convenience of making some easy meals. The separate bedroom, is carpeted, holds two double beds, separated by a night stand, closet, a large dresser and another TV. The room was very clean and comfortable.
My kids enjoyed the outdoor heated pool (as did most kids staying here!). In the corner of the pool is a small area fenced off as a wading area for the little ones. Around the pool are lounge chairs and tables with chairs. Along the fence you will find towel hooks. Denise, the inn manager, has even taken the care to decorate this area and provide pool toys.
Another nice feature of the property is the grassy area off the parking area. Here you will find barbeque grills and picnic tables for your use. What a great way to spend some family vacation time and save a little money on eating out!
It was while I was at the pool that I met Ken, the maintenance manager. He took the time to introduce himself to me, have a nice conversation, and asked me if everything in the room was working okay. I was once again told not to hesitate to ask for anything I might need.
What I observed throughout my stay is that Denise, the manager, treats her staff and guests like family. Her staff then continues the hospitality. Whether you need directions someplace or a restaurant recommendation, her staff was willing and eager to help you. I watched as Denise recognized a repeat guest and stopped to comment how big her daughter was getting. One guest was having trouble with the fan in her room and Ken promptly addressed the issue. Guests are treated as if they are welcomed and not like they are a nuisance.
When it was sadly time to leave, I was once again greeted by the smiling face of Dawn in the office. She asked about my stay and made a recommendation of a yummy bakery to stop at on my way out of town.
Aside from the nice hotel room and great staff, you are very conveniently located within walking distance or a short drive to many area family attractions. You are only two blocks from the boardwalk, beach and convention center.
My least favorite part of the hotel is that parking is quite tight. If you aren't an expert parker you may have difficulty maneuvering in some of the spaces. However, being in a beach community where parking spots come at a premium, I was happy to have someplace to park! And if that is the only thing I can complain about, then I think we are in pretty good hands staying at the Esplanade!
Disclosure: My family and I were provided a complimentary two night stay for the purpose of this review. We were not asked to express a particluar opinion. I had a great experience and would not hesitate to return as a paying guest.
