My husband and I have wanted to go camping since we got married (I even received a tent from my brides maids for my wedding), and almost 7 years (and 3 kids) later we finally went. I checked out different locations within a 3 hour radius from home for Labor Day Weekend, and settled on the KOA in Erie, PA. I'm glad I did! Check-in was easy, and then we followed one of the staff to our camping spot. Our site had water hookup, electric, a picnic table and a fire pit. Our kids enjoyed helping us set up the tent (as best they could), and then we checked out the rest of the place. They have two areas with bathrooms, both in easy walking distance to our lot, and both with showers (very clean!). They had paddle boats that you had to rent though the camp store (which we didn't do), a playground, tether-ball, and a large chess set that you had to stand on to play. At the store you could easily buy firewood, ice, snacks, games, camping supplies, etc. The ladies working the desk were always fun to talk to!
When you check-in they hand you papers with information, one of those a map, another one telling you what events they have going on that weekend. We wanted to take part in some of the activities, but we only made the pancake breakfast since we were out doing other things. They also gave us a pocket sized travel game with our stuff.
Being a holiday weekend and pretty much packed, it was surprising how quiet it was. We didn't have any complaints about our neighbors, and we had tents and pop-ups close by, with RVs just a little farther down. It was such a family friendly place, and my kids are always asking when we're going back. Oh, and they're 7, 6 and 3!
