After a long trip down the mountain from Tahoe this March 2011, we decided to stop overnight in Sacramento and stay at the Embassy Suites downtown. It was such a great way to end our vacation.
What's not to love. You get a one bedroom suite, complimentary hot breakfasts, Manager's Reception (aka happy hour snacks and drinks), a heated indoor swimming pool, a kitchenette with a microwave and fridge and living room. Not only that, this Embassy Suites is in a prime spot for checking out all the kiddie hotspots in the area.
The hotel is located right on the Sacramento River across from the famed yellow Tower Bridge and Old Town Sacramento. You can easily stroll along the river or walk to the Old Town which is also home to California State Railroad Museum. There are plenty of trains to explore outside the museums, but inside the museum you get to go into all sort of trains to explore.
The rooms are newly renovated, so everything was quite nice and clean. The staff was helpful and courteous, so nothing to report here.
The two negatives - WiFi is NOT free and parking will cost you either $24 for self-park or $25 for valet. I guess that's what you get for being in the center of all the fun.
We will certainly be back.
Really nice hotel.
They provided a pack n play for our 2yo boy.
Having the separate sitting room for him worked out well for his earlier bedtime.
The free breakfast for hotel guests was perfect for families. It's nice to just go downstairs to eat and not have to drag a cranky hungry toddler out for breakfast.
It's walking distance to Old Town Sacramento and the California State Railroad museum. We brought the stroller, but didn't even need to use it since we were so close.
Parking is $25 overnight. Valet-only which can be a hassle depending on your agenda, but if you're looking for an overnight stay with ready access to Old Town, Downtown, and the Museum, this is a great place.
Walk to Old Sacramento, restaurants, shopping, and museums—you can’t beat the location and the value. Right on the river, a soaring garden atrium and 242 spacious rooms, each with living room, kitchenette, complimentary breakfast, and
afternoon happy hour; coin laundry. Patio and indoor river view tables for American cuisine at Bistro 100; salads, sandwiches, and wood-fired pizzas in the Marketplace Café.
