Embassy Suites is the only kid friendly hotel in San Luis Obispo with an indoor pool. This town has many outdoor activities like hiking, biking, and is close to the ocean as well. All of this would be great if only it didn't rain on your vacation in June! Curse you climate change! Fortunately, the shallow (3.5 to 5.5 feet deep) indoor pool and hot tub made it so our kids didn't want to leave. That, combined with other amenities such as free shirley temples and snacks made our stay very comfortable. The hotel also provides free board games in the large enclosed central atrium that made it easy to want to stay in.
The room was quiet and a good size with 2 queen beds in their own room with a view of the surrounding parking lot and shops. The bathroom and a hall with another sink divide the bedroom from the living room that has a view of an interior enclosed courtyard and is furnished with a desk, hide-a-bed sofa, chairs, TV, etc. All told, our suite could sleep 6 comfortably (assuming the hide-a-bed was comfortable). The hotel staff were all courteous and helpful. Cribs are provided if necessary. There is an excellent breakfast bar (included with the room) with everything you could possibly want. The made-to-order omelets were excellent. The kids went straight for the junk cereal (fruit loops -not allowed in our house but when on vacation.... OK). With a regression to my college days I stuffed myself and skipped lunch ;)
When we asked the concierge about kid-friendly activities he only suggested the Children’s Museum. I wish he would have suggested more options. In his defense, given that it was raining and we arrived on Friday, the activities were a tad limited. From personal experience, I enjoy Farmers Market, which happens on Thursday evenings (canceled if it is raining though). There is a great little art museum downtown as well. In addition, there are several beach towns and Montana De Oro State Park all within a 15 to 20 minute drive.
The only negative thing is that this hotel is located in the southern part of town, not within walking distance of downtown. So to get downtown where a good chunk of the action is you would have to either bike or drive. It’s a 15 minute bike ride or a 5 minute drive. There are 3 city-owned parking garages downtown so parking is not a problem unless it happens to be on a day when there is a parade, bike race, farmers market etc. Be sure to check the SLO City website for information on all the different activities that happen in this wonderful city.
I would recommend this hotel to friends and family even though it is away from downtown, especially if the weather isn’t cooperating with your plans.

"Centrally located and great for families"
We stayed here with a 3 year old and a 10 month old. This was perfect on so many levels.
1. Because it's a suite, it has a refrigerator. Key for storing half eaten jars of baby food. And, it's like a dorm fridge which my 3 year old could open. This could go either way, but in our case, it was great because he could help himself whenever he got thirsty or hungry.
2. There is a door between the bedroom and the common room which was able to block off a moderate amount of noise. Helpful for the baby's naps.
3. The free hot breakfast with cook-to-order eggs were fabulous. And, the staff there was extremely friendly and didn't mind that our 10 month old was throwing pancake bits. (we did try to pick up as much as possible once he was done)
4. The 5:30-7:30 free manager's reception with free drinks and snacks was fabulous too. One night, we brought some dinner from Ralph's (right next to the hotel) and ate it at the reception with the included drinks and snacks. Maybe we were being cheap, but it sure was convenient and easy.
5. The hotel room itself was pretty big and clean.
Other reviews have said that the walls are thin. I think it's somewhat true as we could hear it when the people above us where stomping around, but I don't think it's that different from most hotels.
Location.
Situated near the airport, this San Luis Obispo hotel is also close
to Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa. Another nearby attraction is
Fremont Theater.

fitness facility. This 3.0 star property has a business center and
offers meeting rooms for small groups and audio visual equipment.
Wireless and wired high speed Internet access is available in
public areas (surcharges apply). This San Luis Obispo property has
event space consisting of conference rooms and a ballroom. Room
service is available during limited hours. A complimentary
breakfast is served daily. The property has an airport shuttle,
which is complimentary. Guest parking is complimentary. Additional
property amenities include a bar/lounge, multilingual staff, and
gift shops/newsstands. A total renovation of this property was
completed in January 2008.

There are 195 guestrooms at Embassy Suites Hotel® San Luis
Obispo. Beds come with premium bedding. Refrigerators, microwaves,
and coffee/tea makers are offered. Bathrooms feature complimentary
toiletries and hair dryers. Guestrooms offer multi line phones and
complimentary newspapers. Televisions have premium cable channels,
video game consoles, and pay movies. Air conditioned rooms also
include separate sitting areas, electronic/magnetic keys,
irons/ironing boards, and clock radios. Guests may request hypo
allergenic bedding and extra towels/bedding. Housekeeping is
available. Guestroom renovations were completed in January 2008.
