By far, my husband’s favorite hotel has to be the Doubletree Guest Suites in Charleston, SC. Although a bit pricey, the service there is well worth the money. I know to some it may be a silly idea, but for us, personal attention is very important.
From the time you arrive, you are enveloped in the kind of hospitality for which the South is famed. You are met at the door in front of the bustling hotel by a valet who introduces himself by name. At the front desk, you check in and are handed fresh, hot chocolate chip cookies with your room keys (Beware, they contain tree nuts), and a bellhop accompanies you back to your waiting vehicle, which is being watched by the ever-vigilant valet at the curb. After they load your luggage onto a cart and take your car to the underground garage for you, the bellhop guides you to your room amid a flurry of friendly chatter, as if he is your new best friend. The rooms were generously proportioned with a king sized bed as well as a pull out couch. Please remember, this is not a new building, it is a historic building and the rooms reflect that, but it is clean and quite lovely. If anything is required during your stay, simply pick up the phone and you will be greeted by name by a friendly voice from Guest Services.
The building is on the corner of Market and Church Streets, so outside your window lays the Charleston City Market, a great view of the city, and a busy street full of color and historic flavor. Nestled in the midst of the Historic District, the hotel is just minutes from anything you could want to see: Rainbow Row, City Market, Fine and Casual Dining, The Battery, Boutiques on King Street, Antebellum Mansions, and the Waterfront. I recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area. Staying there was like visiting family, and I look forward to returning in the future.
