"Lakefront Fun "

We stay here once year while my husband does the Donner Lake Triathlon.  The resort is funky but, nice.  It is a collection of condos most of which are privately owned.  We have stayed in several of them and enjoy each owners different spin on interior decorating for your weekend escape.  The resort has a nice picnic area on the water with a good sized lawn for the kids to play. Keep an eye on the little ones as its a straight shot to the water with nothing but you to stop them from getting there.  The surroundings are beautiful and serene.  The front desk staff is nice and the place is within walking distance of the Donner Lake Beach.

A few things to keep in mind, you will need to stop at the grocery store before you seriously settle in.  While there is a small (and I mean small) market across the street,  more staples can be found at Safeway in nearby Truckee (about 15 minutes away).

"Great location, rooms could so much nicer"

Donner Lake Village Resort has some stunning views because it sits right on the shores of Donner Lake.  We really enjoyed strolling around and walking on the small beach in front even in the winter.  The kids played with the snow instead of sand.  I can imagine how wonderful the property would be in the summer time.

There are a variety of rooms available.  We were in a 1 bedroom suite. Our unit did not have a view.  The room was pretty large with a separate bedroom.  The living room has a full kitchen, dining table and pull out couch.  The room usually cost $220 in high ski season, and for that price, I was disappointed that the furniture and decor was so dated.  Think 80s hotel room.  The bed was pretty comfortable, but the pullout couch was just okay for young kids.  Not so great for anyone over 60lbs I would think.  It's pretty saggy, but I have been on worse in my life.

The full kitchen was nice. Clean and had just about everything you need to cook a simple meal.  There were no spices at all, so bring everything you need if you are planning to cook.  It was really nice to be able to cook prepare breakfast for the kids before rushing out for a ski day.

On one corner of our building, there is a nice sitting area with a fireplace that overlooks the lake.  It was comfy to hang out there in the evenings.  So, even if you get a regular room, and your kids go to bed early, you can hang out there.  Be sure to call ahead to request a room near the sitting area with the fireplace.

The WIFI is free and works well.  Cellphone reception for AT&T was very poor in our room, and phone calls  from the room phone are expensive.  The front desk was very friendly and helpful. I'm not so sure about the housekeeping.  Our room didn't feel very clean.  The shower curtain in the bathtub looked like there was mold growing on it and the sheets on the pullout couch looked like they had not been changed.

Nearby ski resorts are Boreal Mountain, Soda Springs, Donner Ski Ranch, Sugarbowl.  Northstar and Alpine are about 15-20 minutes away.  Truckee is 5 minutes away and is full of restaurants.

All in all, it works for a family, but the prices are pretty high for a room that didn't feel high-end.

Moderately priced, comfortable accommodations,
