Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort is a great hotel to stay at, right on the disney property. We enjoyed our stay but I have to say that we didn't fully use all the ammenities. There is a beautiful pool with water slide that was fun but really we spent most of our time at the Parks. So you might consider staying at one of the less expensive Value Resorts and saving some money.
We stayed here in Sept of last year. It is such a fun place. The pool is a themed pirate ship and has a slide. The hot tub was large and had a "hidden" hot tub behind the pool area. The gift shop was nice and the food there was spectacular. We stayed on the other side of the lake from the main gift shop/pool, etc. It was an easy walk because they have a very tropical feeling bridge that connects one side to the other. I know the pirate rooms they have are a little bit farther of a walk but you can drive to the main area or there is a bus that will take you there as well.
We had a great trip our last stay here. Pros- wonderful lush greenery. I really liked the food court- lots of options. I enjoyed that everyone had a close bus stop. And the rooms were spacious and cutely themed with nemo. Cons- the buses, at times, would be a long wait or seem like it takes forever to get around to your village. We'd walk to the food court some but it was a little bit of a walk. My last comment could be a pro or con depending on who you are :) We loved it- but some others may not enjoy it, but there is a lot of "wildlife" on property. Nothing crazy- but we encountered dozens of snails, tons of birds, lizards (obviously) and lots of frogs/toads. One little guy wouldn't leave from in front of our door when we were trying to get in our room :) ha. but we really enjoyed it. Do NOT let your kids walk off the paths though. This is Florida and there ARE snakes sometimes. Oh and we saw lots of bunnies! So cute. :) Housekeeping was great as well. Great stay overall!
I stayed at the Caribbean Beach with my 4-year old and teen. I had been hesitant to stay at this resort because I heard it was quite large and spread out. Well, I found this to be true but don't let this turn you off. Even though the resort is large, there is transportation to take you in and around the resort. Actually, I found the walk fun and quite scenic. If you do not have any disabilities, the walk around should be no problem. Plus there are small pools all around the resort so you do not have to walk far to reach a pool. The best thing about this resort is the main pool. At this point in time, it has the best children's pool at Disney. The new pool was just opened in 2008 and it was worth the wait. Hopefully, Disney will update all the children's pools to be as interactive and child friendly. If you have a small child and spend time at the resort pool - this is the resort for you! Other than this, the resort was clean, staff was friendly, and the grounds well kept. The food court had plenty of options leaving everyone in my party happy. So who would I recommend this resort to? Caribbean Beach is a moderate resort and if you wish to choose from this mid-range priced hotel, certainly CBR would be a solid choice. It is great for families whose children will be spending quite a bit of time at the pool and if you are into tropical theming - this is the place for you.
If you want to stay on site but are on a budget, Caribbean Beach may be the way to go - but be warned. It is not like the other moderate hotels. You get a lot less for a little break on the price - better idea is to stay at a value resort or just pay the extra and stay at another moderate hotel.
First problem is that Caribbean Beach is huge. So huge, it has its own internal bus system - just to go around the resort. If you have any problems - say you get locked out of your room (they keys never seem to work the first time) - it can take awhile to get someone out there. There is no quick trip to the gift shop to grab snacks.
Second problem is that they run the same amount of busses as other moderates. So, larger resort, more people, same busses - see where I am going with this?
Disney's name may be on the door, but you won't feel as welcome and happy here. It is run more like a foreign resort than a Disney property. Save your vacation - stay elsewhere.
Only good thing, imo, was the pool - very nice.
