"Wish we had a better experience"

Growing up close to Disneyland, I never got to stay at the resort as a kid, so I was looking forward to staying at the Disneyland Hotel with the kids, and was excited about the newly renovated rooms.   Unfortunately, the construction was a big problem for us.

I booked through the Disneyland website and upgraded to a "deluxe" view room.  When I booked, it clearly described a "deluxe" view room as being on levels 3 to 6 and having a view of either Downtown Disney or California Adventure [the website currently is NOT showing a "deluxe" room option when you go through the booking process, although on their room description they still list standard, deluxe and premium as the choices].  Well, our room was on level 6 of the main tower, but we had a view of the construction site, which is a big hole in the ground.  Also, the main tower we were in was undergoing construction, and every day you could see two ropes hanging in front of our window, and one day we actually saw the platform being pulled by ropes in front of our window and going up the building!  Around 8 or 9 in the morning, you could hear the construction inside the building and have a wonderful view of bulldozers outside moving dirt around.  We complained about this before even unpacking, saying that the webside clearly indicated we would have a view of the resort or downtown Disney, but was simply told that what we described was a "premium" view, that we got a "great rate" and there were no other rooms available, but they'd keep checking for us.  I knew they would not bother checking for us.  Also, we paid upwards of $250 per night (3 nights) for this room, and on the first morning, they mistakenly put the invoice for the previous occupants of the room on our doorknob, and we saw that the previous guests only paid $175 for the room.  Very disappointing.

I thought this would be a resort quality hotel, but was disappointed when no one offered to help us bring our bags to our room.  My husband had to make two trips to the car while I waited with the kids inside the room.  I suppose if we had paid extra for valet parking, then they may have brought our bags to our room.  There were plenty of guys standing around.

The room itself was actually very nice.  The light-up musical headboard was awesome!  The TV was great, and had lots of chanels (lots of Disney stations).  The two queen bed room we got did not have a daybed.  It did have a pack and play, which fit fine in the large room.  Bathroom was nicely updated, and all the Disney details were sweet.  Bed was comfy enough, and everything was clean.

Construction around and inside the hotel made it inconvenient getting around.  Also, the hotel is pretty far from the entrance to the parks.  Although the monorail entrance is not too far, it starts running at 10 a.m., and when we went there at 10, we were told it was running late, so we ended up just walking.

We went through the Grand California entrance to California Adventure the first day, taking advantage of the early entrance for resort guests.  That was nice.  Going through Grand California also convinced me that we should book a room there next time.  It would not have cost too much more to stay there, and we would have had a much better view, plus no construction noise/view/inconvenience.  Also, we went back to the room for our little one's nap, and the trek to Disneyland Hotel is really long, especially compared to Grand California.

I did like the shop inside the main tower of the hotel.  It had a lot of the things that the big store in Downtown Disney had, and was MUCH less crowded.  There is also a small convenience store in the main tower that was great because they had small bottled milk as well as other drinks.

We had dinner the first night at Goofy's Kitchen in the hotel.  Very convenient, and great experience for my 4 year old, but my almost 2 year old was scared of all of the characters!  My husband spent most of the night taking him outside whenever a non-princess character came by.  Food was pretty good, and had a good selection.  We ate at the Tangaroa Terrace the second night and I wasn't too impressed.  It is not connected to Trader Sam's, so we couldn't order drinks.  It was more of a cafeteria style dinner, and was very empty.

Overall, I did like and was impressed with the inside of the room.  But I would recommend staying here only after construction is completed, or if you can be sure to get a non-construction view and a room in a tower that is not currently under construction.

"Classic Disney luxury turned modern"

When I stayed at the Disneyland Hotel with my parents as a child In the 80s,  it was THE place to stay when visiting Disneyland, but after the Grand Californian was built, it quickly became eclipsed.  However, Disneyland Hotel is going through a major makeover that’s coming along very nicely.  We had the opportunity to stay in the brand new rooms in the Wonder Tower last week.

BEAUTIFULLY REMODELED
My gosh, the reinvented Disneyland Hotel is quite a thing of beauty with it’s modern twist on classic luxury.  The rooms still have that sophisticated elegance fit for a Disney princess, but the new look wraps it in tasteful modern overtones that blend together beautifully.  I loved all the details that made the room feel uniquely Disney – silhouettes of Mickey Mouse ears on the faucets and a headboard beautifully etched with the iconic Sleeping Beauty’s castle where my favorite.

SPACIOUS ROOMS THAT CAN ACCOMMODATE 5
As to be expected, the beds were very comfortable, the room impeccably clean and even our two-queen room felt wonderfully spacious. There was enough space for a separate area behind a partial wall where the bathroom, closet, and desk  are located, making it possible for mom or dad to hop on the computer or get changed without waking sleeping kids. The rooms are spacious enough so that each room includes a day bed which doubles for a couch while still leaving plenty of room to set up a travel crib.  So, even if you’re a family of 5 plus a baby, you could very well fit into one room at the Disneyland Hotel.  Add that to the plus column for the Disneyland Hotel when deciding on your Disneyland accommodations.  Non-Disney hotels with smaller rooms may require you to book two rooms instead.  There are also adjoining rooms if you’re traveling with another family or grandparents and one bedroom suites.  A few other nice touches  - each room is equipped with it’s own pack and play in the closet with crib sheets like all the other Disneyland Resort Hotels.  Also, many of the rooms look into the central courtyard where the magnificent new pool and beautiful landscaping beckon.

THE BEST POOL OF ANY DISNEYLAND RESORT PROPERTY
Speaking of the pool.  The new pool area at the renovated Disneyland Hotel may be the single most compelling reason to book your family a room here.  Now, did you think that the old pirate themed swimming pool at the Disneyland Hotel was pretty great to start with?  Add to that the brand new  monorail water slides. There are three slides. The larger of the two main slides sits 26 feet high and stretches 187 feet, until it plunges into a splash pool. The second slide is 13 feet high and 112 feet long. For younger guests, the area includes a third, two-lane mini-slide that sits just 3 ½ feet high and is 19 feet long, as well as a series of small bubble jets in which to play.  You might have to stay an extra night just so you can spend a day hanging out by the pool at the Disneyland Hotel. The landscaping around the pool is beautiful and I just can’t wait to see the whole pool area when the renovated original pirate ship area is complete.  This pool area is going to be the most impressive offered by any of the Disneyland Resort Hotels in Anaheim.

THE NEW HOT PLACE TO STAY
The rooms at the Disneyland Hotel currently start at about $295/night which is slightly more than the Paradise Pier Hotel and a little less than then the Grand Californian.  However, you get much more compared to the Paradise Pier. The pool area is totally incomparable.   Compared with the Grand Californian, the lobby areas may not be quite as grand.  However, considering how beautiful the rooms are at DIsneyland Hotel and the "to die for" pool, I think the Disneyland Hotel is going to be the new hot ticket in town once word gets out.

THEMED SUITES ARE SWEEEEET
If you’ve got a very special occasion to celebrate and the cash for it, the Disneyland Hotel has 5 themed two-bedroom suites – Mickey Mouse Penthouse, Fairy Tale Suite, Adventureland Suite, Big Thunder Suite, and the Pirates of the Caribbean Suite.  I got a peak at them, and boy, has Disney gone all out leaving no detail untouched.  Each apartment comes complete with a full kitchen and dining room.  I could just imagine hiring a private chef to cook up a fantasy meal for a private dinner party. When you walk into each one of  the themed suites you are immediately transported into a different world.  You could be on the set of a Disney movie.  Artisans were commissioned to build custom pieces for each room down to the rods that pull the curtains close and the doorbells that play theme songs.  My favorite was the Adventureland Suite which I’ve dubbed the "Indiana Jones suite". The  master bathroom is a grotto that simulates various settings through light and sound effects, including a rain forest and African savanna. Of course for me, a stay in one of these suites will just remain a fantasy at the price tag starting at 2500/night.  But a girl can dream, can't she?

BOOK NOW BEFORE THE WORD GETS OUT
All in all, we were very impressed with the newly renovated Disneyland Hotel and if you’re looking for a complete and luxurious Disney experience, book your rooms now because I bet the reservations are starting to pour in.  Of course, you’ll be able to take advantage of all the regular perks of staying at a Disneyland Resort Hotel like Magic Mornings that get you into the parks an hour early on select days, and special entrances for hotel guests to name my favorites.

DISCLOSURE: This review is based on a discounted stay at the Disneyland Hotel for a media event. I received no other compensation. The hotel did not state any requirements that I express a particular point of view.  These opinions are entirely my own.

"Loved the Disneyland Hotel"

First off let me start by saying that is had been a dream of mine, since I was about 10 years old to stay at the Disneyland hotel.  I grew up in Arizona and traveled to LA area for track meets quite a bit.  During those visits we would take a day and go to Disneyland.  I just loved the idea, even at 10 years old, of staying so close to all the magic.  I made my first trip to the Disneyland hotel when I was about 35 years old and it was everything I had dreamed it to be.  The location is key!  You are just a quick walk or monorail ride away from Disneyland and just steps for Downtown Disney where you can enjoy dining and shopping. We loved the themed pool at The Disneyland Hotel!  The landscaping is beautiful at this hotel as well with gardens and waterfalls.  We enjoyed our room with 2 queen beds and a nice sized bath with a separate vanity area outside the bathroom.  Rooms at this hotel have now been remodeled with new bedding, new carpet and new furniture to give it an updated look. I can't wait to check out the newly designed rooms. From the pictures I have seen, they now have those nice white duvet covers instead of the icky bedspreads!  We also enjoyed Goofy's Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel. Goofy's Kitchen offers character dining so this is a great place to go to have your children interact with some of the most beloved Disney characters.  I would not hesitate to stay at the Disneyland hotel again!
