The condo we stayed at here was very roomy and nicely furnished. It was a spacious 1-bedroom (700 to 800 sf) with full kitchen, overlooking a grassy garden area. As with many places in Hawaii, the unit was ventilated through panels in the walls that fold like blinds (jealousies), so noises from the birds and most notably chickens become a problem for my wife in the early mornings. We came with our 2 1/2 year old who had a great time chasing those same chickens around the lawn in the back patio area.
My wife booked our accommodations here through a package deal that included airfare from Oahu, and it came out to around $100/night (which we think is a great deal). The Kiahuna Plantation resort is a large group of privately owned condos and the ones at Castle (at least in our case) were a little farther from the beach than the others. Instead of being walking distance, factor in about a 2-3 minute drive if you want to lug beach gear and small children. Our condo came equipped with coolers, fins, boogie boards, floaties, etc, so the car was essential to getting to the beach (Poipu Beach) even though it was right nearby.
Our kids enjoyed the airy bungalows on the beautifully landscaped twenty-eight acres. Outrigger Resorts, the management company, also offers one-bedroom suites that can sleep up to four. Oceanfront suites are expensive but include a basket with continental
breakfast. A beachside concession rents bodyboards, snorkels, and fins.
